here is my story:

dec. 28, 2005 i called lockline to get my
sony ericsson s710a. (i know its disco'd). and while it's been disco'd i've gotten it replaced 2 times. before the call ends i always ask and they always confimed i'll be getting another s710a. so on december 30th i recieved via ups my new s710. i didn't get to use it until the 2nd of janurary which i found out that the mic on the phone they sent didn't work at all. so i called back and spoke to a lady. this lady also confirmed, after she stated it and i also asked that i'd be getting another s710a. believe me i asked her atleast 5 times before we hung up (and she confirmed it before i asked). but she did confirm it. so i wait and this time for some reason it took longer than ...

The answer is actually quite simple. I don't work for lockline, but sometimes when you get a phone, whenever they submit the order, it shows stock availability, to confirm what you are getting but if they are out for some reason whey it REACHES THE WAREHOUSE they HAVE to send you something comparable. that's most likely what happened.

I have never dealt with Lockline directly with my carrier, VZW. When I went to my VZW corporate store when I had to replace my phone, the corporate store had a refurbished phone of the same type on site. I had to pay my deductible on the spot. I wonder if Cingular does something similar to VZW at their corporate stores, have a stock of refurbished phones and try to offer the same phone as much as possible.
But I do know that Lockline should have contacted you if the phone was out-of-stock unexpectedly, and let you know it was out of stock, and try to offer a different phone before shipping it out.

lock\line and Cingular's policy on insurance replacements state a comparable model will be sent if your model is out of stock. You could say the policy is the notification. They probably don't have a large volume of those S710's since its discontinued and have problems stocking much of them any longer.

Cingular laid off all its technicians (the keepers of the refurbished units) in my market when they switched to "headache by mail" - unlike Verizon who has now hired almost all of the former cingular technicians.

we still have techs in our stores in my market, but most of the time (maybe 80%) still are done by mail.. sometimes an exception will come through and we'll get it approved to be done at the store (but it's a new phone).

May I inquire what market? Is this a former BellSouth market - if so the CWA has some 'splainin' to do.

it may be a market by market thing... but one store in our "arsm group" has a tech in it. I'm guessing it might have something to do with the 800 phones they activate every month lol

No we're in the north east (philly market)
