Simple question about contracts, etc........

I signed a 1-year contract with Cingular last year in February. I have 2 phones on the account. I am wanting a different phone, because ours aren't working properly - dropped calls, terrible static (when I have 5 bars), phone acting funny. The website says that I'll be eligible for an upgrade on Jan. 12th......my question is, should I attempt to call the customer service line & get a different phone, or should/could I cancel this # and open up a new account under my wife's name (with an online retailer) and get the better phones that are only available with new activation? I sort of want to keep our same phone #'s, and would like to keep our rollover minutes. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would it even be possible to open a new acc...

Your phone has a one year warranty. Get Cingular to swap it out for free. They can be reached at 800.801.1101 as long as the handset is not water or physical damaged.

If you signed a contact on Feb. 12th then you are elligible to upgrade on Jan. 12th. You can still get the good deal on an upgrade through your local retailer or cingular.com. This lets you keep the same numbers and roll-over. You will have 2 addition $18 fees when you upgrade.

Plus you will have 2 new activation fees proration and will be billed a month in advance. You might get a g...

What about using an online service (buy.com, amazon.com, letstalk.com, etc) to open an account in my wife's name? I guess it's still frowned upon, but possibly my only chance to get the phone that I need/want. I have a feeling that they'd want to charge an arm & leg for the new sony w600 - am I right? Any suggestions?

You could actually get a better deal from an agent. Just call around.

newb. How do I find an independent agent (I assume this is what you're talking about). Is it possible to get the new Sony phone for free if I sign a 2 year contract? I'd be happy to do it. Back before my phone started crapping out on me, the network was incredible. I had great signal, clarity, service.

Of course if you don't say anything, they won't do anything about it.
