Cingular & Treo 700w

I really really want one of these devices. I am not switching off my GSM network to gain one either. I just bought a Siemens SX 66 two months ago and I have had a Treo 650, Blackberry, and many symbian OS phones. I am ecstatic about Palm's case and layout having Windows 5.0 software. I generally purchase a new phone every three to six months. I do believe if/when I acquire one of these I will not be switching for a while according to the reviews and features.

Does anyone have any insight/information/encouragement as to when this phone will be available on/for Cingular's network?

Thanks in advance!

I think palm dropped the ball by using a windows smartphone platform, and I for one hope they return to the Palm OS.

Well I haven't had a whole lot of experience with the Palm OS but I do know the differences between the two. The Windows Handheld version is pretty stable (especially 5.0) and with the Palm hardware I think they will make an excellent combination.

Also if you notice the news releases by Palm they state that they aren't going to quit using Palm. They are just going to develop more models of phones, some with Palm OS and some with Windows.

Besides, that's how you make it in the technological world, by taking a chance. I think that they have stepped up a bit and offered the non-Palm users a product that they will enjoy and be able to benefit from.

Why not go with the Ipaq 6515 that's out now and not wait for a Treo 650w for Cingular. They seem comparable.

I'm not all over some HP prducts as I haven't had much experience with their handhelds. I will have to check it out though as I just ran across some news that the Palm treo 700w won't be available until late '06. That stinks but I guess that I will have to deal with it. I will read up on and check out the HP you mentioned though. Thanks!

The 700w is a 6 month exclusive to Verizon.
There are Palm OS versions of the 700 slated to hit the market in the next 6 months starting with the 700p, the Hollywood which is a GSM exclusive and the Low-Rider which is the cheapee of the bunch.
The 700p is slate to be Sprint exclusive (according to the rumors) for 3 months at least, then it will be out for every provider.
Hollywood is rumored to be quad-band similar to the 700p with no antenna, updated palm os and better BT connectivity, there maybe more features.
So you will have possibly 2 choices: 700p and Hollywood on the PalmOS platform and 1 choice on the WM5 platform.
Try checking with palm sites like http://www.mytreo.net or http://treocentral.com or treonauts.com or palminsider....
