Cingular Push To Talk

Does anyone know when Cingular is going to launch a Push to Talk. Last year i remember people saying that it was going to be this time this year, but i havent heard a word. And does anyone know what technology it is going to work of of

No details on which platform they've adopted. No solid release dates.

The only info I saw stated the the Ericsson (open) plan was going to be used, but still no release date.

i have heard something happening in late july, but cingular directly is very quiet about the whole thing.

All I know is that it is in testing and until the system is working at an acceptable level, it will remain in testing. Last I heard is Sept or so for the rollout.

Ok honestly, how succesful has ptt been for the other carriers? We can all agree that Nextel is the only real choice because so many people use it. The only way this will ever catch on is if a cingular customer can talk to a Nextel customer.

i agree, and if you don't use it for business then the ptt is almost a fad. in car use and ptt is terrible. i tried to drive and use the ptt and was very irritable. what if the person was not available. you would have to call back and leave a vm. extra 20sec-minute. the only reason i liked it was because ptt gave you another bucket of minutes to use. peak,n
&w,ppt. i think it is something everyone should try but in the long run do you really need it.

The Cingular to Nextel most likely won't happen as the technologies used by both is too different.

Cingulars will most likely work off of GPRS and have a 1-3 second delay.

Nextel's is an iDEN system.
