it has come to my knowledge that the only phones cingular carries are the ones listed on the sight only......... there is only about 11 phones on that site, so those are the only ones i can buy from if i have cingular?

You can do something about using an unlocked phone on the Cingular GSM network.
Unfortunately I do not have any more information. What I do know is that Cing wll NOT give you any form of support with a unlocked phone brought to them. Heck the phone may have the exact right stats for the GSM network and Cing may just refuse to activate it!

Cingular won't refuse to activate it, i don't know what cingular store you go too. We just can't support it for obvious reasons, we don't sell it. SO if you have problems or issues, you can't go to cingular for help. Which would be the same with every other carrier out there.

not necessarilly. you are incorrect about activating unlocked phones. Cingular does not SUPPORT unlocked phones but you can use them. We can provide any info you need to get the phone working. We may not have info for your phone so you will have to have the info yourself or provided by the manufacturer. Cingular will activate any phone you want. I helped customers with their v600's they had months before the phone was offered in the states.
