Signal Amplifier

I'm looking to propose the addition of a cell signal amplifier at my university because the service around here sucks!!!!
Service on the roof of the dorms is pretty good but I can barely get one bar inside my room, standing next to the window
If anyone has suggestions...feel free to post...BTW my dorms are at SUNY Old westbury

A much lower cost option is to take a glass mount or suction cup vehicle antenna and attach it to the outside of your window. Attach another antenna to the antenna cable with a coupler and place it in your room.
The inside antenna will act as a passive repeater and will transmit through the outside antenna with better service. You can get antennas fairly inexpensively. Just be sure the db gain on the antennas match.
I learned this trick from an engineer who does it to get better reception in buildings made on mineral based materials. (concrete and steel and aluminum)

You could probably increase your reception by going to a different carrier.

its not the carrier (im actually lucky, sprint and tmobile have no coverage)...its the area itself

your right, Cingular has barely no reception in my house, and my friend has Verizon and works perfectly, that's another reason i might go with Verizon.

Well llkoola you will be satisfied with you switch. its so weird because my friends who have cingular say that they have like 3 out of 4 bars and i would still hear them t-a-----k l----ike thi--is. i live in a new deveopment in the San Francisco Bay and NO ONE has great service in my house.... except for Verizon. My friends who have T-mobile have no service, neither do my friends who have Sprint... Nextel has one bar if you stay still for the entire conversation, Cingular has like 2 bars, but almost everytime my firends who have cingular use their phones, it drops. Verizon has 1-2 bars, rarely 3 ... but wherever i use my phone, i come in perfectly clear. So i highly recommend Verizon!!!!
