yeah......it's called insurance. are you asking if they have a second lost/stolen phone program? why would they if you wouldn't pay for the first one?

Best thing to say to customers:

"Cingular won't even help me out... I lost my phone and now I have nothing"
"Do you have insurance?"
"No... but they still wont do anything, they should help me out SOMEHOW!"
"Let me ask you this... how can you consider it fair... for the millions of people out there who pay for insurance every month, if Cingular gave you the same benefit, for you paying nothing?"

That usually shuts them up.

In actuality, the retail prices on phones at corporate stores are really, really good. When you think that the COST of a razr at my indirect location is 260 dollars, and a corporate store sells it for 249.99, that's not too bad at all. Cingular makes almost NO profit off selling phones for retail. Any profit...

If you've had your phone for over two years, you're eligible for an upgrade sir. If you are over 18 months actually.

You can buy a "Go Phone" at a retail store and go get a sim card with your number on it and put in the "go phone" and it will work like you old phone. Or you can try ebay if you dare or you can go to a pawn shop or see if anyone of your friends has a extra phone (Thats as long as it is a "unlocked" or cingular branded phone). All you need is a new sim. Our go to a corp. store and buy a new one at a store. The cheapest fone is lg c1500 and that runs about $120.00

Maybe you should stop and think for a second the countless episodes of ridiculous BS we deal with every day.

and I'm sure that if he called into a Cingular call center or went into a Cingular dealer, that they would treat him with the respect and concern he deserves. he is, however, asking on a forum that is filled with people who need somewhere to be besides whatever call-center or store they are stuck in. he is bound to get a candid response rather than the common professional ass-wiping they are required to give as a representative of Cingular Wireless.

On a side note.....mmcnier has been on this site a while. I know he knows about the insurance and what can or cannot be done. I think he's just asking as a last hope, but alas, there isn't one.

plooky.....your contempt for everyone and everything on these forums never ceases to amaze me...

I know there is insurance, but have never needed it before. Usually I have no problem buying a phone outright, like the V551 I had & paid $150 for it. But I am a little low on cash right now. I know that most companies will find a way to make sure you can still get service. I pay $125 monthly & this isnt something I was anticipating on happening. I saw that someone suggested that I get a gophone & just swap the sim. Never occured to me. That will just have to do until I can get something better, like the z520

There is a way to get cingular to help you get a new phone. First if you are more than 12 months into your contract, with no disconnects in the last three months you are eligible for an early upgrade provided you pay more than $75.00 per line per month. its called "value the customer protocol" which is designed for this type of situation. I'd rather start a new two year contract today replacing my old one any day of the week rather than pay for the razr full retail. Or you can threaten to cancel service and the "cancellation dept" will offer you a nokia 6010 dirt cheap to make you stay.

Look to the upgrade... I purchased several 3595's from Ebay, working well. May be that you can find someone who has a cing compatible phone, buy a sim card, & weigh your options...

I second the GoPhone solution. But if you're looking for a decent stop-gap, find a used, or refurb'd Nokia 6010. Darn near bullet-proof and they get decent reception. Makes a nice backup... or a doggy chew toy. hehe
