can some one please tell me why gsm batterys last longer then cdma batterys

They don't, it's different on a phone to phone basis.

but for a similar model, the GSMs do last longer

GSM batteries are actually weaker than the ones they put in CDMA phones yet they last longer

it's an efficiency thing
