If you set the phone in an area with better reception. For example, setting the phone next to your window in your office yet you work at your desk.

So, in a way, yes. It can enable you to have better reception where YOU want to work, sit, etc.

From experience, if you're outside in Lubbock with a 7100g, many headsets don't get nearly as much wind noise. So that could also be considered "improving call quality."

stupid wind.

Haha.

Very true.

And in case anybody is curious, the Plantronics Voyager 710 headset comes with a removable windsock. Provides additional protection in windy environments (Lubbock, convertibles, etc.)

I have a Logitech Mobile Freedom, which also has a very good wind guard on the microphone. And it's pretty reasonable on the wallet.

I got the Plantronics 510 that too comes with a removable wind sock. It really does make a difference. And I got it for $45, and not only is it the least expensive one I bought, it's also the best.

You have to be precise about what you mean by call quality. If you mean the connection between the phone and the network, no. It will have no effect.

It can, however have a big effect on sound quality. Some headsets do a better job than the phone itself of picking up the speaker's voice and rejecting background noise. That will make your voice much clearer to the person you call. In addition, some headsets have a better quality speaker and do some electronic tricks to make what you hear sound better. Heck, just the fact that a headset will have a better acoustic coupling to your ear should make it sound a little better.

I asked this question because I have a w600i and its call quality is decent when I call cingular customers but half the time when I call other subscribers of other companies such as verizon, track phone, and etc I experience dead air. When I say dead air I mean a point in time where Im connected on the phone but all i hear is silence. It just frustated me and I was looking for a way around this. Someone told me that this silence i experience is contributed to the GSM technology and I just get use to it.

If anyone wants to know I reside in southern california the 92336 zip code.

I had a v551 do that, but it was a problem with the phone, not the service.
