That Horrible Buzzing Noise

When i have my SE Z500a phone near my computer or near audio devices it makes the most annoying buzzing noise. Why does it make that noise, and is there any way to get rid of it? It's funny because my friend comes in with a Verizon phone and i hear no buzzing noise and i have my Cingular phone and it's horribly annoying. thanks for your help

The good news is that the Cingular phone will typically use much more power when transmitting than a Verizon phone. That's how they achieve superior coverage over Verizon even though they have 50% less towers. This is what causes that buzzing noise you describe. The bad news is that by using more power, it can actually fry your brain if you talk on your phone for more than a few minutes at a time. I would switch to Verizon immediately but, hey, it's your brain.

I've only ever had GSM and TDMA phones. I encountered the same problem since I got a triband GSM T637 phone 2 years ago. When I had the single band 1900MHz Nokia or the TDMA Nokia phones no such problem. Maybe it is specific to the 850MHz frequency. The buzzing is most acute when I am about to receive a call or when the phone switches from one tower to another. It also happens in the car. When it happens right before receiving a call it is sometimes helpful if I have left the phone on silent.

Yes GSM can cause buzzing on other devices (radios, speakers, etc.) but it has nothing to do with the frequency or a higher power level.

GSM actually uses less power than CDMA (this is even backed up by consumer reports in their latest cell phone review issue). It results in better battery life, but that is about it.

😳 catch one every time 🤣

Seriously, I was not trolling - only trying to be a smart a$$. I thought it was obvious that I was kidding around but apparently the folks in this forum are too serious for that. Of course devices like TVs and radios can pick up interference from other radio transmitters nearby and that is what is happening. Everyone has the same experience.

Sorry for being a jerk.

I knew you were kidding.....I thought it was hilarious.

I just think that people are so serious about trolling all the time. It was good to see an absurdist argument. You should go to the tracfone forum and check out this thread. I think you'll like it.

Don't buy Tracfone

Well, I have to hand it to you this is the most imaginative explanation to come along in ages. How long did it take you to think this one up? There's not a thing that you have "explained" that is in any way resembling what truly e...

It has to do with the lack of an RF shield on cheap stereo equipment, ie: computer speakers... GSM phones tend to give more of a whine for some reason...

Some earlier posters already touched on this but it has nothing to do with cingular and everything to do with GSM technology. All GSM phones make that buzzing sound when next to T.V's, Radio's, or computers. Most commonly its noticed when the phone is within a certain distance of a computer. This problem has been around for as long as GSM has been around and I dont see it changing so if you use Cingular, at&t or t-mobile then thats the price youll have to pay. For reasons unknown to me CDMA and IDEN technology are not affected buy this. Hope that helps.

It's the way GSM and TDMA technology work. The only way to get rid of it is to place speakers etc. away from GSM phones.
