Hi All,

I just finished doing a three week long comparison of Cingular versus Sprint in my local calling area (Bay Area California), and wanted to share my findings.

Upside:

- I love the selection of cool phones. Cingular has a great selection, and most any GSM phone in the world can be used on the network.

- Sim card swapping is the way life should be. Want a different phone today? No sweat, swap it out.

- Customer service was actually quite good for me, despite the issues noted on the forum. Certainly no worse than any other company, Sprint included.

Downside:

- I've tried a SLVR, RAZR and Blackberry with my service. What I found was that in comparison to Sprint, my call quality fluctuated widely. One minute I'd have 4...

Downside:

- I've tried a SLVR, RAZR and Blackberry with my service. What I found was that in comparison to Sprint, my call quality fluctuated widely. One minute I'd have 4-5 bars, then the next, a dropped call. Sometimes the quality would be excellent, but overall, I came to distrust the bars and the service.

The trouble with your judging of service is that you're only dealing with *your* particular location. Location is a *big* deal when you're comparing service since all carriers don't cover an area equally. If you're...

"You cannot make a statement that this or that carrier is bad/good since you're just dealing with what you've found in a particular area"

Yes, just my area...I'm not saying that Cingular as a carrier is bad,, just reporting what my own experience was in my home area in the hopes that it gets better. I like Cingular, and want them to be good... The VP of GM may have had a fine experience, but my call quality wasn't on par. Maybe they'll install new towers or something.

I have no idea what you're talking about. We have been recently called the Best Network! in the Bay area...

"Results from a third-party drive test earlier this year showed Cingular has the most reliable wireless network in the nine-county Bay area. The tests, conducted by Global Wireless Solutions, measure numbers of dropped, blocked and incomplete calls among major wireless carriers.

New advertising highlights the fact that Cingular has fewer dropped calls in the Bay Area than Verizon or Sprint.

“We want everyone to know that Cingular has the best network in the Bay Area,” said Fred Devereux, VP/GM – Northern California. “I’m proud of the fact that Cingular has the best network, showing why more people choose Cingular as their wir...

I have the exact same problems as dnp607, ever since the merger the quality of my service has drastically diminished. I have been a customer every since the early days when Cingular was pacbell. The poor quality of my phone calls, missed calls because my phone did not ring despite being on the network, voice mail notifications not appearing on my phone til the following day are all unacceptable especially when you rely on your phone for business. I am making calls from the exact same locations I have always made calls from, but there is a very evident and real noticeable difference in the quality of my cell service, so much so that I am going to be switching to another carrier as soon as I decide on which carrier to go with. I have calle...
