"Cingular has made history after the leading independent, third-party wireless research company reported for the first time that we have the fewest dropped calls among all major U.S. wireless carriers.
Ads with this great news ran today in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and USA Today, also pointing out our network investment of over $6.6 billion and our 47,000 cell sites, the most of any network.
This achievement demonstrates that our company has crossed an important threshold.
In fact, said Chief Operating Officer Ralph de la Vega, this announcement is only the beginning.
“I want you to know that this is just the first of many more leadership firsts that you’ll see from us in the next year,” he said. “Cingular h...

Yep just like a Cingular fanboy to post something w/o any links to back up the bs.
...
Why don't you pick up the Wall Street Journal or USA Today. He provided his sources as well as the company that provided the testing.
Telephia is available through any reasonable google search.
...
Well I searched google and found telephia. However, the article that is suppose to exist DOES NOT! so unless one of you Cingy fanboy can provide a link i call bs

You actually got me to splurge and spend $.75 on the USA TODAY and the ad is very misleading I will quote it exactly MONEY SECTION USA TODAY PAGE 5B Wed.March 1st, 2006 edition
"Cingular has the fewest dropped calls of any wireless carrier. The leading independent research company has concluded that cingular has the fewest dropped calls of any wireless carrier.
That's no surprise. In the past year we invested over $6.6 billion in the network.and we have over 47,000cell sites in america, more than any other wireless carrier. ETC.....
My first issue is Simply who is the "leading independent research company" that they are saying did the research????
2Nd Was this $6.6 billion spent building new GSM towers or simply interegating ATT towe...

Wow No comments from Texaswireless this time. But I imagine you probably tell your customers to do their own research too. Hopefully they don't and just take your word for it otherwise, you probably lose alot of sales to Vzw and T-mo 🤣
...
I work in a retail store, and this article was provided through our sales portal, which is a link that is unavailable to the general public (a company login is required to view the information on the site.) Perhaps that's the reason he didn't provide you with links..
Nevertheless, yes, that IS an article that was posted, he isn't just making stuff up for kicks. ;)
...
No, I SHOW them the info on the research. Got a fax number? I will fax it to you as well.
...
Good biy, you found it. The article is there, you just didn't bother to read the site. You have to PAY to see their research.
And 3 posts within 50 minutes? Relax, some of us are out winding down from work, getting a beer, whatever. You'll get your response.

Well, at least our "best network" claims are based on independant data and not "Verizon's own internal testing".
Telephia has been around for quite a qhile, long before things heated up in the wireless industry for "Best Network".
...
The Findings
Telephia conducted drive tests last year in 290 markets across the country, covering roughly 88 percent of the U.S. population.
The testing team placed more than 1.5 million calls and measured the number of calls dropped versus the number of calls placed. The results showed that our Cingular network is significantly better than Nextel, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon on this key measurement.
its a 3rd party company that gets paid to do these tests. bottom line is... its public info. take it or leave it. fight like a buncha girls.
...
So who paid for this particular test??? Bet it was not Sprint, T-mobile or VZW!!!
I will take my info from a source that does not accept money or anything from any of the companies that they are testing, ie Consumer Reports. They are totally independent and accept no advertising dollars what so ever.
...
I believe how it works is that Telephia drive tests all major carriers no matter what the circumstances, and then after the tests are complete and the restults are found, Telephia offers the results to any company interested in the findings for a fee.
There would be no possible bribes.
Why is it so hard for you Verizon fanboys to accept that a company other than Verizon is on top for once?
...
i mean people must be very wary with this study especially since its an internal email. (quoted from internal email= anx mentioned)
i think FCC and other independant studies should be done to determine this, but just on metrics, verizon destroys cingular...
...
??????
It WAS an independent survey.
??????
I have never seen you challenge Verizon's "Best Network" claim and the fact that it is based ON THEIR OWN research.
...
i dont need to challenge them on it, becuase their churn, lifetime revenue per user, drop call rate, and net adds tell it all.
...
It's true... the numbers have sucked for the past year... but thats mainly because the focus wasn't where it needed to be. Well it was, but it wasn't applied to areas that needed it more.
In the year to come, I believe all of this will change, as they've already started to build momentum into bettering customer service, and lower churn.
As fall as the drop call rate goes, well, the INDEPENDENT study already confirms they've already surpassed verizon and the others.
...
see those are excuses.. the focus should be everywhere and growing every part of your business. prepaid, postpaid, and wholesale.
well, i dont care for that independent study.. becuase as mentioned there are ties with bell south who owns cingular.. unless there is another study or the fcc does one, i dont really believe that..
...
Why won't you answer the question posed to you.
Please cite the resume's of the entire board and executive management. If you found two, you can find the rest.
...
i already copied and pasted from the their web site.. i dont need to do it again.. re-look at past posts.. i will not re-post for you..
...
You never posted info on the entire board and management, only those that suited your theory.
...
i said in an earlier post that i found 2 people that had ties with bell south...
...
And the rest. 2 out of how many?
...
So that is why they rated the Bose 901 speakers poorly after Bose refused to give them a test pair. Because they are unbiased.
Speaking of research, you might want to research companies you claim are unwavering. Consumer Reports doesn't have a very clean record.
...
I also will take it from a source that conducts surveys in 88% of the markets nationwide rather than 10% of the markets with the only data used to support their research consumer reviews.
Hard Data vs. Opinion.
...
Heh, that's what I always thought about Consumer Reports. 🙄
...
better then verizon? that's very suprising.
based on metrics like lifetime revenue per user, churn and net adds i would disagree with that statement.
perhaps that will lead to fewer complaints and increase their reputation and keep their lead on verizon..
should verizon change their advertisment of "it's the network" and cingular add it to theirs?
...
They will.
In the next few weeks, you can bet your bottom dollar Cingular will make this fact known to everyone, even if they don't have a cell phone.
...
i really dont think so.. their network isnt as great and their metric mix is horrible against verizon... as well as their image is bad. perhaps this new merger will allow for more money to be infused into cingular to improve on their terrible areas
...
There will be ads in all major news papers during march.... we already have the sample ads in the stores...
...
yes, i know about their marketing strategy, but they need to some how convince verizon and other users to switch to go to them and i think it will be very difficult.
...
yea, it will be difficult, never said it wouldn't be 😁
But I think they're finally getting in the right direction.
...
yes, i agree. i think they are doing a great job marketing their new tv service which i think might be a success but i think prior to launching any of these new services, they must fix their image and brand name.. that merger to own 100% of cingular is such a smart idea and i think that will improve cingular by them investing heavily in them and improving their brand name..
i hope cingular does well.
if you were the helm of cingular what would you?
...
I would do more commercials like vzw does... not focusing so much on a specific phone, but more on the network, towers, etc, etc.. then maybe throw a phone in at the end... afterall, it's all about brand awareness.. plans are the same, it's going to be about who they remember when they think of a cell phone.
...
i have been liking the new cingular's tv serious marketing campaign and it is quite enticing, but will that make me switch? no becuase i already know about cingular and their problems... i think you are right and its a better idea not to focus on any products but more importantly is to focus on their data network, network, towers and leading metrics... i think that will be best to improve their image then after they do that, then they can do whatever they wish and will be successful.
...
exactly. I think they should keep showing the phones and devices, but lean more heavily on the network side, and the recent announcement of least dropped calls.(which it has already been announced they will do so) At least they are going to try to capitalize off of that. Now to just get the cust service issues under control.
...
that is true, but i dont think they can claim they have the best network unless they prove it.. surveys dont mean anything unless they cant perform.. such as the metrics that i have already explained earlier.. they need to do better with net adds, churn and lifetime revenue per user. also they need to do away with the complaints and being on top of that. (in a bad way.. not being the best) remember, the 2004 FCC report was horrible for cingular.. perhaps that will change in the 2005+ reports...
time will tell.
do you think they can do this now that the merger has happened?
...
They are already doing it right now. They have steadily improved their network with large investments. The metrics will come as people start to test them out. Nothing happens overnight.
...
of course nothing happens overnight but its been a year or so already and things have been improving slightly and not the way they want it.. even the ceo of cingular mentioned their problems...
i know they are investing billions of dollars in their network and many millions (hundreds even) in some key areas, but that isnt enough... they need to do more then just fix their network and i outlined that a few posts ago as well as other posts.
...
Well they are great here and you like always are overreacting. Its okay, your still cool in my book.
...
well, i dont really care about individual markets, i care a lot more about nationwide results..
aww thanks. lol...
(fyi, they are horrible here)
...
what do you think makes up nationwide results. every carrier has their great spots and bad spots. come on, you know this much. at least you can see the investment that cingy has taken on to rectify the problem. i think the worst area for them is customer service. but hey, sprint is right at bottom with them.
...
yes, but sprint is actually delivering on results and with the other metrics, while cingular isnt... there is a big difference between sprint and cingular...
i know what the carriers do in a market with regards to capex and as well is nationwide, but as i mentioned, that isnt their only problem they face.
...
as they should be at this point. the merger that they are going through is a soft merger. they have not had to deal with migration and the fall out that could come from that along with everything else. but when they start moving folks from iden to cdma, watch how the problems come about. hell, if cingular operated attws like sprint does nextel, they would not have had nearly as many problems. but many mergers go through the same problem and they are usually always corrected over time. but you already know this so why am i having to tell you this 😳
...
well the migration wont be as problomatic as people are expecting especially with barry and kathy at the CTO and CNO positions. i think they will do a great job migrating people over and i think it will be seamless, becuase especially with dual mode phones and qchat will entice many people to go to cdma.. again, cingular and ATTWS are totally different then sprint and nextel becuase SN has better CTO, CNO and managment then CA.
cno= chief netowkr officer
cto= chief technology officer
sn= sprint nextel
ca= cingular/attws.
...
well i hope it all goes well but we both know that it will have problems. hopefully not as many problems as cingy/attws.
...
we dont both know that lol.. you and others think there will be problems, but there wont be. as i said with their cto and cno, who are the best in the industry, will do a great job.. our CTO did a great job with the lack of spectrum and capacity with nextel, he will do a great job with the surplus of spectrum he has now. kathy, well she is just a great CNO who will do well.. combine they will do extremly well..
they have been doing co-locations of sites with iden on cdma and vice versa. no problems yet.
we shall see. 🙂
i know it wont be as bad as cingular and attws. their managment and cto are a joke.
why would they have problems upgrading? (attws and cingular) even when they are on the same network technology lol..

I think now that the integration is just about over, the company can focus on the real needs of the customer and not be worried about switching towers over.
Like I said before, it's great for momentum goin into 2006. We'll see what happens throughout the year though.
...
yea, but there are some areas that integration will still take place..
yes we will.. 2006 should be interesting...
i think umts/hsdpa will be a key factor for them to grow. 16 markets so far in 2005 and more expected to come in 2006.
they are going to spend $7B this year on their network.. lets hope that works in a positive way..
here are some facts;
until late 2006, there will be gsm integration, where 30% of overlapping sites are integrated.. blocks calls are down 45% and drop calls 35%...
the tdma rationalization seems to be completed..
the whole UNwind situation will be completed in 2007.
----
should be itneresting.
...
I think this is actually really cool. Maybe it will help create some buzz for Cingular again and Verizon will stop being fascists with their features.
The one thing that I am curious about though is this: Is there anyway to test call quality as well? My VZW service will drop probably about 2-5 times a week but my call clarity is always acceptable whereas the GSM phones I have used have sounded like I was talking to someone in a hurricane when I was in fringe areas.
Also, what handsets did they use for the major carriers?
...
