Customer Service?

Well, I assumed that customer service was unimportant, once you've signed up and gotten service. I was about to switch from Verizon (the scum of the business pond) so I called Cingular with a couple of basic simple questions (e.g. what is my bill - clean after taxes and the arbitrary administrative charge - different for each carrier) Here is what I experienced:

Nobody yet has been able to answer these questions. One rep. told me he was not permitted to address billing questions. Each one has directed me to another number or chat line. Wait times have been excruciating long (from 10 minutes - 40 minutes - we know your time is valuable.....) . If I cannot even sign up for service , I guess that I'll stay with verizon.

Verizon has ...

fyi, taxes are normally set by the state you live in. so if your in CA and call in get a guy in PA. he can't off hand tell you. there is or atleast once was a way to look it up and get a ruff estimate but i don't know if they still have that. however taxes on cell phones is normally between 6 and 28% depending on where you live. however if you have vzw in the state you live in now then chances are cingular will be the same. i think the only standout is t-mo for some reason in PA where i live their taxes are a tad higher. some way to save money huh. as far as calling customer care and taking up time to ask those questions, sorry you got the runaround but it would of been better and smarter for you to ask that in a corp. store in your state. or...

This is true, also some fees and taxes are based on things like how many mins worth of long distance you use and such. The tax on a bill is almost impossible to accurately guess and cingular as a company can look up what percentage everything is and tell you (its in their resorce system) but will never quote an actual tax till a bill is printed to give an idea of what it may be. Its a lesser of two evils situation. would you rather someone say your bill will be 39.99 plus taxes depending on where you live and let you know those could be anywhere from 3%-28% or have someone say your bill after you sign up with us will be 39.99 plus 5.00 in taxes and fees, only to find out that your bill has a 28% tax rate (making it over $11 in fees) after yo...

You really should go to your local store because taxes aren't the same everywhere in the nation.

Thats because reps times are precious and being tied up with pointless things like that.Notice the term "Customer Service" they are there to service their customers. If he/she wants to know then call local sales store or go there, since this is a potential sale.

Maybe if people called in to the right department for the right issue, maybe customers wouldn't have to wait that long.

I mean the companies have made it accessable for people to make payments 24/7 through the automated system and website yet customers still tie up lines to reps for payments.People h...

Verizon has a tool in place for any rep anywhere to tell you exactly what your taxes and surcharges will be based on where you live, and will generally answer within 30 seconds to a minute with no transfers! Customer service is not something Cingular has caught onto yet, there still in that "learning curve". 🤣

Taxes vary by location, but any company should be able to locate this information and provide it for the customer. I would thik this would be required by the powers that be.

sometimes you get retards working customer service. it is unfortunate but most companies that employ call center employees are only looking to warm a chair and speak on the phone. they fill their smallish brains with information hoping that they can retain information enough to spout it out to a customer who has a question. Most of the times their smallish brains can only handle a few mundane tasks and the rest fall by the wayside, this is also my take on why there are so many different answers for one issue. some people retain what the others do not.

fortunately, for some of those who do not wish to remember everything, and also know that they cannot remember everything, they have this tool they can use, it is amazing and you can find...

the hold times at cingular are nothing new and don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. When I was with Cingular, I remember one day at my call center we had almost 1000 people queueing. That is ungodly! Also, from the neglect and the poor training and micromanaging, most of the good people have left and I am happy to say have followed me to a local startup...and yes, we are doing very well as a company.

From a customer's prospective, Cingular is terrible. You get 3 different reps with 3 different answers...bad training. We used to get told to believe everything in CSP, then a trainer would come along and tell us it was wrong or changed and so there started the tumbling misinformation boulder.

Anyways, if you never have to call ...

speaking as someone who has trained new hires, i have never told anyone not to beleive what is in CSP, the unfortunate reality is that CSP changes FAR TO OFTEN for someone to read and remember. not looking often at an ever changing document is what gives everyone different answers. I have been guilty of it myself, even being in QA i have to get corrected sometimes because i didnt look at CSP when scoring someone. chalk it ...

I personally don't fight the IVR, I still have the direct number form when I worked in a Cingular store so I use that. If I get somebody who is clearly new and doesn't know what they're saying I hang up and call back. I'd rather sit through the hold times then work with a moron.

Generally, I haven't had many problems with them. I get alot out of them. I work for Verizon now yet I'm still so happy with Cingular that I refuse to switch even with a discount.

yeah, i kept the direct cs number from nextel, and ditto with the discount...sprint gives me unlimited service including power vision and text and i still rather pay 91.00 to nextel each month.
