Upgrade Question

I have a friend who has been a Cingular customer for a few years. He is currently in a two year contract, and will 'officially' be eligible for an upgrade in June of next year. Is it possible that he could upgrade now? I have been told that if you are in a 2 year contract it's possible to upgrade before ur 'official' upgrade date. If this is true, how early can he uprgade?

He may qualify for an "Exception Upgrade" (which is the 1 yr price of a phone with a 2 yr contract extension) if he meets the following criteria: 1)He's 6 months into his current contract. 2)No past due amount. 3)Three or less suspends/disconnects in the last 12 months. Hope that helps.

Yes but he signs a new 2 year contract, but only get 1 year discount, so for example $150.00 phone he would get 1 yr $50.00 off, 2 yr $100.00 off, he has 1 yr left so he is signing a new 2 yr but really only renews it for 1 year beyond what he has now, and gets 1 year discount pricing, but thats it.

I see, thanks guys, so, let me ask you one more question: can he call Cingular and request this and actually get it, or is it one of those things where it all depends on who answers the phone when he calls?

He should get the same answer regardless of who he talks to. He simply needs to ask if he qualifies for an exception upgrade.
