Phones DO matter for reception

Just had another customer come into my store and say that CS told him it doesn't matter.

I WORK where reception is inconsistent and I will tell you this. An LG c1500 will NOT pick up reception as well as a Nokia 6010.

My top picks for reception (in no particular order)

Nokia 6010
Nokia 3220
Motorola v3 RAZR
Motorola E1 ROKR
Sony Ericsson z520a
Sony Ericsson w600i

The only one I would stay away from completely is the LG c1300 (for those stores that still have it) The c1300i is better though.

I'm sure everyone else will have alot to add or take away from this. Let's hear it! =)

I never had problems with my V551 (but my roomie did) I let him use mine for a bit, and he says mine had better reception than his, I checked them both -software, version and all that- and they were both the same! (weird eh?) Also my SLVR is being pretty good so far.....

The Rokr and the 3220?

You must sell used phones at your location, buddy. Those phones are WELL BEYOND their EOL.

We tend to hold on to EOL phones. You'd be surprised how many people call about those. Especially the Sony s710

He is right in a sense - The ROKR is a E398 with different colored plastic and one extra software application installed. Yes, they are still making them, etc., but the core design is older.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

That doesn't mean they don't do their job well.

I know people with Startacs who get better reception than some of the new Nokia and LG phones....

Yeah, Nokia does a much better job on GSM....

CDMA? Hit or miss... some models rock, others are merely expensive paperweights.

Sorry but not every Nokia is good and not every Motorola is bad. It's not that simple.

People like anything that is either shiny or thin.

It isn't terrible; it works well as a phone, it just is way overpriced for what else it does.

True- But another thing to remember is the same model can perform different from market to market. Different markets use different network equipment. (Lucent, Ericsson, Siemens, Etc) This can even vary buy MTSO.
get with local RF guys, they can tell you which models perform best in your home market.
