Last time I called Customer service to inquire about unlocking my phone, they said that I would have to wait 90 days from the time I activated service. Are there any other clarifications that I should know before I call to request to unlock my phone. Have there been any modifications to the policy? Can somebody reply to this message with the full policy.

I called CS today to get my phone unlocked. It has been 90 days and I have paid my bills on time. CS rep said that they do not have a way of unlocking the phone and that I would have to go to a corporate store.
Does anybody have a similar experience? 😲 😕

Where did you get the phone from? The 90 day rule is if you bought bought it direct through a corp retail store. If you bought it from 3rd party vendor like a reseller store such as: Wal-mart, radioshack, car toys,etc.... then you must go through them since customer care needs proof of purchase to get it unlocked.

If you bought it from a friend, family member coworker etc..., then they can't unlock it wihtout documentation that s...

Then you need proof of purchase, order manifest that came with the phone and then take that into a corp. retail store. If you don't have the order manifest(proof of purchase) you will be outta luck.

It turned out that the CS rep I spoke to was confused. 🙄 She thought I needed a PUK unlock when I actually wanted a SIM unlock. That explains why I was directed to a corporate store.
The rep at my local store was very helpful. However he said he had no knowledge of how to unlock the phone. He claimed that he would be fired by the manager if he suggested he could help. I believed him because publicizing "phone unlocking" is against Cingular's customer retention strategy.
After calling CS again, a rep who understood what I wanted to do answered the phone and walked me through the whole process. He provided me with the key strokes to access the phone unlock menu and the unlocking code. If only Cingular could increase the number of...
