HSPA evolution is being specified in 3GPP Release 7 where MIMO is one of the cornerstones. Ericsson expects MIMO to be deployed in commercial networks in the 2008 timeframe.

but multiple channels? i mean it's nice that it's possible would any carrier actually give customers multiple channels? i would think there is not enough spectrum for something like that

the thing is, the more mutiple channels or carriers(spectrum) the better, but the problem is, will the carriers (cingular, tmobile or other gsm type- dont get confused) have 1. that ammount of spectrum, which some do, and 2. will they allow that amount of bandwidth, not sure..

see that is why when we see these data speeds going up to these high amounts mean nothing really becuase it is up to the carriers (mobile ones) to optimize that spectrum to be used..

with MIMO it allows for the spectrum to be used more efficiently, increasing data speeds and coverage.. so i am not sure if it matters as long as they dont go over their spectrum.

i dunno it still sounds to me like those dual 56k modems way back when that used two phone lines and gave you a 112k effective bandwith
