Does anyone have any idea why Cingular has such ridiculously high deposits? I know it's to filter out the baddies but I think 750 is a little extreme... and what about spending limits? Why don't we do that... at least then we can get the customers that really want to go with us.
We lose quite a few sales to this, and the people just go right to T-mobile and get approved. I see the logic behind it but it still frustrates me. I feel bad whenever I have to tell them "Approved with a 750 deposit." It's like you are insulting them.

It is not an insult when you have a customer with a high deposit. Tell these people to pay their bills on time and a security deposit will not be required. I don't feel bad when this happens.
I am fourtunate to be in an area where people who require a deposit normally pay it....
I am glad Cingular is hefty on their credit requirements. It could be worse, Verizon's deposits go as high as $1000. I would rather loose an occasional customer who can't pay their bills on time..... It is one less chargeback for me. This is why Sprint and T-Mo have such a high turnover ratio.

Cingular used to have minute manager for the credit challenged. It was an account with a spending limit and once it was reached your service was interrupted. Most of those customers ended up canceled due to non-pay. I asked could they try minute manger again? It was declined due to the popularity of go phone hybrid plans.

Apparently GoPhone plans are the replacement to that. If you just look at the GoPhone PYP (Pick Your Plan). No contract and no credit check.
Plans at 39 have 1000 N&W..higer have Unlimited N&W
They autmotically cancel for no payment, or with PYP auto-debited every month.

Well, T-Mobile is a bit of a credit nazi too. For some reason they required me to pay 500.00 deposit, I took the 300.00 for Cingular and got me a cool phone, my service is great and since I work Tech Support for Asurion / Lockline I troubleshoot my own phone. I never have to call. Unless I have to exchange which I haven't have to do it yet . . . 😁

Cingular has a reduced z-class deposit program in my market (Washington-Baltimore). Currently, only two Master Dealers and their subagents can use them. I'm in one of those subagents. 😁
Z-Class (no credit) is normally $500 per line but under this program, you can just do a $200 deposit. There was once a time when it was $150 but it caused too much churn so $200 is what it ended up being settled on and then the churn was acceptable.
D-Class people however are shown no mercy. If you have a $750 deposit, that means you have a history of defaulting.

I once had pretty bad credit and have paid for it. I couldn't get a loan and had a huge deposit for a cell phone. I decided to clean that up and be an ADULT. Haven't had any issues since. People who have bad credit are obviously irresponsible and are usually the people coming into the store complaining because we've "done messed they bill up aggin (yes, I spelled aggin right)." Funny how the people who always have "billing issues" are the people who don't pay their bills.
And I worked for Sprint before Cingular, and the low deposits aren't the best thing. I think that's why the commission structure went to only 30 day chargebacks. I would go through my acts from three or four months ago to see people who were approved for more lines to tr...
