Do not get Cingular if you live in an urban town. I live in Atlanta and I drop calles left and right. And also only get 2-3 bars in my house. I have to run outside to answer a call without dropping it. I have had several phones so you cant blame it on the phone. I have a friend with T-Mobile and she has never droped a call and she live a block away from me and she only gets about 2 bars. If you go to www.tmobile.com and go to there personal coverage checker you find alot of places where the have coverage and don't. At least there honest about it and don't flaunt that they have the best coverage. I own a Sony Ericsson z520a. I love the phone, but not the service. On cingular's website they won't show you the coverage map except by regional an...

I always encourage people to go into the store. They have a tool that can verify, to the address..not only the coverage, but nearby towers as well.

I know that many people at Radioshack are honest enough to tell you what type of coverage, since they like to best serve their customers.

If there's better, somone at RadioShack would most likely tell you.

Yeah but that map tool is a joke anyways. Im in Orlando, FL, and I too have been dropping calls left and right. Its actually getting really sickening. I have a Treo 650 that used to work great everywhere but lately it just continued to get worse and worse. Ill have 0 bars one minute, 3 the next. Please dont blame it on the phone bc it has literally never been dropped and has no bugs. My calls are garbled, sometimes take like 10 seconds to start ringing the person Im calling, drops calls, etc etc etc.

Cingular says its the merging of the BLue & Orange networks, but its been months now that it continues to get worse.

Im pretty over it, but of course in contract. Now that Cingular is going back to AT&T, even more network disaster...

Lies! 😕
Atlanta is one of Cingular strongest markets. What's the point of coming here to advertise T-Mobile? and worse of all, trash cingular in the Atlanta market... Apparently you are completely unaware, but Cingular's headquarters are in Atlanta. I understand you like T-Mobile. I do too. But coming here to lie about *&$^% is pathetic.

Another FYI:

For some reason, I just realized ATT Sim cards cannot connect to the new Cingular service very well.

So if you have an ATT branded phone, or are using an ATT Sim, the phone display says Cingular...but isnt using the Cingular "Orange" towers. As Cingular converts more ATT to Orange, the "Blue" network coverage will get worse.

To resolve this, Cingluar allows ATT, or "Blue" customers to migrate into Cingular "Orange." Yes, it means a new phone and sim, but you get to keep your number.

Somone told me that ATT "Blue" customer service is encouraging customers to migrate to Cingular.

we have been encouraging that. but, with the network integration, it is giving 'blue' customers the same access to the network as 'orange' customers. they will have home access to all towers, not just 'blue' towers... in areas that have not been integrated you are correct, your sim scans for a 'blue' tower first.

so in our market, WA. It will be a while before then..by then most the customers may have already Migrated.

Because right now, I get complaints about Cinglar's coverage...every time it was either a ATT branded phone or an ATT sim, or both.

I told them the best bet, to get the better coverage, is to migrate into Cingular and get a new phone and sim.

The dude's complaint is a about a Z520, though, so it CAN'T be Blue. I do think it's strange, though that there would be coverage issues in Atlanta. I'd wonder if that particular phone itself was defective.

As far as ATT sim cards, they do not support ENS, so you wont have access to orange towers and blue towers at the same time. The advantage of the new 64K sims and new phones supporting ENS is just that. They can access orange or blue towers anytime. They also make it so the transistion/handoff between towers doesnt drop a call when going from blue to orange or visa versa. One netwrok will be preferred over the other however, and depending on the coverage in your area, cingular can flip flop the priority without having to program your phone or anything to give you the best results possible. Z520s have had problems with dropped calls for some reason. Most of the time they get great reception, but every once in a while Ill get a csutomer who co...

Just a guess, but could they be implementing the high speed network in your area, and if so, would that have any affect on the problems you are experiencing?

Just because Atlanta is Cingular's headquarters is in Atlanta doesn't mean they get perfect service there. For example, Sprint phones drop calls on their "World Headquarters" campus.
The market could be overly-saturated with Cingular customers, leading to dropped calls, missed calls, etc.

No cell provider can guarantee service in buildings, that is not possible, so the issue with calls in your house could happen with any provider.

If you are unhappy with your cingular service, give T-mobile or Verizon a try and see if you are happier.

Exactly. All Cingular shows you is a sea of orange, so there is no real way of knowing what the coverage is really like. T-mobile hit the mark with the PCC.

And even the "MTi Map Tool" is a joke bc places that are the darkest green are weak for everyone I know lately, along with my service too. Ive never been so disappointed but lately (past few months) it is terrible.

Why oh why did post this? Dont you know that these Cingy fans are gonna rip your post apart. Besides as far as dropped calls go your gonna drop calls with T-mobile as well you will with any carrier and T-mobile pays Cingy to use their towers.
