Lockline sets the standard? I have no proof, but I think Cingular has a hand in that decision. Verizon uses lockline, and you can have insurance on any phone or pda.

"i have no proof" key words pal
Cingular does not have control over what lockline covers and does not cover . We charge 3.99 per month from customers for insurance. After that if something happens outside of warranty its outside our control. lockline reviews the phones we offer and the cost of them having to replace them so they send us a list of phones that they refuse to carry !

ooh yea verizon hmmmmm
are you guys still selling analog black and white screen phones that do not cost less than the 50$ deductible ???????????????

Why would lockline cover one treo, and not the other? Thats why I speculate that Cingular has some input into the insurance coverage, and that it is not just lockline.

Please present your proof that "Cingular does not have...

I now work for Cingular and had worked for Sprint for 2+ years. I know at Sprint, EVERYTHING was insurable. Like Verizon and Cingular, Sprint uses Lock/Line too. I asked my boss why phones such as the 8125 (PPC 6700 for Sprint) wasn't insurable. He gave me the explanation of "there is so much insurance fraud on phones that expensive that Cingular will not insure those phones." Makes sense to me, but it's still b.s.

The only reason I can think that Sprint would insure a phone like that versus Cingular is that with Sprint (or Verizon) when a phone is reported lost or stolen, it is immediately suspended and cannot be reactivated, unless by that person themself, and, if it is flagged lost or stolen, they have to turn it back into Lock/Line.
