help me Cingular people,please...

Let me preface this by saying that I am a newbie retard. That said,I do need some advice. I need a plan and a phone for EMERGENCY communication only. I recently moved in with my parents,who have health problems,to take care of them. I work afternoon shift and need for them to be able to reach me at work. I want to go with Cingular because 2 friends of mine,who have Cingular as a carrier,let me try their phones at work and I got great reception. I've tried other friends phones from Alltel,T-Mobile,and Verizon and all got very poor reception. First of all,is it the phone or the carrier that influences reception? (My experience says it's the carrier.) Motorola and LG phones from Cingular got great reception while Motorola,Samsung,and LG phones...

Nokia is great for basic phones. I use a 3595, not sure what the flavor of the day is but I'd start there...

I think the entry level phone with good reception is the Nokia 6030.
