I am a Sprint direct dealer and I was just wondering how good/bad the commision structure is at Cingular, because the one here isn't so great. So for you Cingular Direct Reps could you please let me know what you think before I decide to make a change. Thank you, and your reponses will definitly be a help.

Average example: Where reps would make, lets say, $1500-$2000, those same reps are making $800-$1200. And as a result, reps have bled away from Cingular in blinding rates this past year and a half or so.
...
$800-$1200 a month?!?! Thats insane. Our reps (indirect) make the high end of that in just their base. Are Cingular direct reps straight commission or is there any base?
...
$800-$1200 is just the commission. Base is average $1400 per month (~$9-$11 per hour) New reps are being started at liek $7 or $8...pretty sad.
But commish alone used to be $1500-$2000 alone, MINIMUM. On great months, it could be $2500, $3000, even up to $4000. (Christmas time).
But Cingular in the recent year has put in all kinds of changes: Higher goals/quotas for opps and tiers, feature rev requirments, etc.....making it a total rat race.

Yeah with the high quotas, thats one thing my boss pointed out about the other stores. Our store goal is 105 new activations, between 3 people, so 35 is each person's goal. Im sure it's all relative to the area and traffic, though 35 does not seem unreasonable at all. At the Radioshack mall I sold about that plus all the electronics etc we carried. How high are the quotas generally for direct stores?
...
Direct stores quotas WERE 40, but as long as you got 85% of them, you had to meet all other measures (features, accessories, etc) in order to not get written up. then they changed it to 50, along with raising all quotas on features and acessories revenues.
Now, theyre doing everything based on "opportunities" (activations + upgrades). They are set at 90 opps (at least here in Florida), which is kind of unrealistic, especially when there are 5-9 reps that EACH have to acheive that to avoid getting written up.
EX: Back to last Christmastime, in order to qualify for Cingular Rewards (which we hadnt had for about 5 months or so), a rep had to get 80 opps. Well, being one year into the merger, only 2 reps in the store got even close...at...

I am a cingular rep here in alabama. Ever since they changed our commission structure my commission checks have sucked! My base pay is not too bad. I started off pretty good. We have to get 90 opportunities here in my store and i havent gotten close to it since it started.. i get right too 80% which is 72... IT sucks now..

YOU HAD BETTER STAY WHERE YOU ARE. CINGULAR IS TRYING EVERYTHING IN THE BOOK TO GET RID OF INDEPENDENT AGENTS (EXCLUSIVE). THEY WANT COMPANY RETAIL STORES AND NON-EXCLUSIVE DEALERS (WALMART, RADIO SHACK, BEST BUY) THEY DO NOT HAVE TO PAY THEM RESIDUALS. THEY SET THE FEATURE RATE SO HIGH ON OPPORTTNITIES (NEW & UPGRADES) THAT THEY ARE UNATTAINABLE USING HONEST METHODS. THEN THEY CALL YOU IN AND GIVE YOU 90 DAYS TO REACH THE LEVELS OR YOU CANNOT SELL CINGULAR. I DO NOT THINK YOU WANT TO GET INTO THIS SITUATION.

As I do appreciate your feedback please PLEASE PLEASE stop using all caps.

I work for a corporate store in central florida and let me tell you that the new commission structure doesnt inpress me 1 bit. blue to orange was pretty accurate in what he said. Its been about 2 months since the change to the opportunity based payout and my butt hole has not stopped hurting. It wouldnt be so bad in my area but the majority of customers that come into my store are on 9.99 add a lines. No matter what you do it will never add up to a good amount because the payout is too low. Basically 3 weeks after they rolled out the new comp plan they changed it and said that we still need to have 40 new activations out of our 90 opportunity quota. so in a nut shell they cut our payouts and rasied our upgrade quota.
