a friend wanted a new phone and they forced her to do a 2 year agreement. She asked for a 1 year and said they did not exist. This is in Buffalo New York. I have never and will never do a 2 year agreement. I am too OCD over my phone and dont feel comfortable signing for that long.

Is she willing to pay $50-$70 more for her phone to get a one year agreement? I know YOU are, but what about her?

If she is not willing to do that then this is a moot point. If she is I would suggest going to the store and asking for a manager.

Yeah thats true.Cingular also made some changes. If you were a former attws customer and you upgrade all the mail in rebates are for 2 year contracts only, also if they still do 1 year, the customer pays the shipping and handling and they don't waive the $18.00 upgrade fee, that they were waiving before. They only waive for the former attws customers if they do a 2 year contract only.

You can do a one year contract... with current pricing the phones are between 75 and 100 more. The problem is, Reps don't get paid on 1 yr contracts, so they avoid them like the plague...

I'm not sure what the story is behind that, I'm saying 1 yr contracts are available... I just did a no-contract today for a guy...

i did a 1 year when i signed up over a year ago. I get an employee discount because of where i work so i got a 1 year contract and the phone at the 2 year contract price. They told her only 2 year contracts, cingular does not offer 1 year anymore. I just thought that was odd, cingular would turn away or lose a customer because they wont do 2 years but they are willing to pay more for the phone.

It is odd. Was it a corp store? I'd have her call customer service (as long as she's willing to pay the difference in price)

All price tags in corp stores list 3 prices (sometimes 4)

1. 2 year contract price
2. 1 year contract price
3. No contract price
4. Go phone price

If it was a corp store, she could probably pay the difference. If it was an agent, she's gotta deal with them...

Ours still list the 1 yr prices... The accessories are listed in the space above the 2 yr price..

Well in market 35 doing a one year contract on an upgrade is absolutely pointless. You only get $25.00 off the retail price of the phone, (most rebates don't apply as they are only for 2yr contracts), then factor in the $18.00 upgrade fee and you have saved yourself a whole $7.00. WOW!! If you are worried about being committed just pay full price. Also in market 35 reps get in trouble if they do 1yr they have to explain why so it is just not worth it to you or them.
