๐ This is something new I wanted to start doing that will help me make more sense of this wireless industry. Feel free to give any "good, worthwhile" comments to this post.
Topic of today is the US and why it doesn't get the same great phones that get released in Europe.
I know this has been discussed several times (well mostly just argued) but it makes me ๐ wonder with all the freedoms and perks we Americans have in this country why cant we get some of these great phones without having to order from a third party dealer or from the internet.(Shout Out to Ebay ๐ ) It makes no sense that the World's Most Powerful Country is behind the times on one of the fastest growing consumer products that almost every one uses.
Please guy...

That's a difficult question to answer, some blame the FCC for too much regulations, others blame the providers themselves for not keeping up and still providers blame the customers for not wanting to pay the value of the phone, and yet even more blame the fact that we can't make up our minds CDMA, or GSM.
It's complicated, but I have to agree with you about the need to deploy these mobile devices quicker. Most companies feel, well you as a user will nto buy a new phone till your contract is over.

I have a question for you, that should answer you guys serious questions. But you have to promise me you won't take it to mean that I'm comparing Americans to dogs, I'm not, just their behaviour in this one issue.
Why do dog's eat bones?
Answer, because it's what they are offered, and they are so appreciative of what they get that they will eat anything, including leftovers.
If people stopped paying for phones that were substandard (even if they are cheap) maybe the cellphone companies would wake up! Just a thought.

๐คจ Now this is true but we cannot place all the blame on the wireless carriers especially when its the FCC that decides what phones Americans will get offered. The FCC approves substandard devices and basically tells America to have this and like it.

most of the customers i deal with on a daily basis want a "free" phone. Even if we were to offer some of the awesome phones that are available overseas, most of my customers wouldn't see the value in paying extra for them. They feel as if they are owed something for being a customer for a long time. I tried that with my energy company recently, when i needed to replace my furnace. I've been a customer for 14 years, can't you give me a free furnace?

I agree completely. In my market (which I will give up is not exactly a tech savvy market) I get people in on consistent basis asking "What do you have for free." I get so sick of customers who think that just because they have been paying their 40 dollar a month cell phone bill for 2 years that they deserve a free everything.
But I will not get started on that. Basically its exactly that. Why bring new great phones over when most of the people in America don't give a crap. W are surrounded by fast food eating morons who just want to know "If I get the upgrade can I get that there razor phone for free?" Because all they know is that the RAZR is a phone and it looks neat, no mind the fact feature wise its pretty lame (v3 and v3c less so t...

๐ฒ Whoa come down man. I understand where your coming from and unfortunately America seems to care more about What are you gonna do for me than What is the best phone out there for my money? People seem to forget that you get what you pay for and when you get a free phone dont expect greatness. Now dont get me wrong I like getting free stuff every now and again but when it comes to electronic products like cell phones cheaper is by no means better.

I agree to a point, but the issue is still there, if we demanded more, and stuck by our demands by not using the service by any carrier until a decent phone came out, then the carriers would all put pressure on the FCC to get new things pushed through. We are part of the problem and part of the solution. The problem is that few of us, not to mention enough of us to make a difference, have the discipline to not have a cell phone until they come up with something acceptable.

I think it's very easy to blame the FCC...
In fact, I feel that it's entirely the FCC.

It's not just the FCC, the carriers, OR the customers. It's a combination of all these PLUS the Gov't all rolled into one big ball of crap.
Sure we can't decide on GSM or CDMA....then again niether can Japan and they're still WAY more advanced.
I seriously think it's a vicious cycle. The carriers started all this FREE PHONE mess back when they were tryin to build out their networks. It's been goin so long that everyone in America thinks that EVERY cell phone should be free. (How many of you reps get customers who think "you're eligible for an upgrade" means "we'll give you any phone you want for free"?) This attitude keeps them bargain hunting. Bargain hunting leads to carrier subsidies. Carrier subsidies only make the cheap stu...

๐คฃ Im pretty sure Cingular's upper brass has one or two yachts already. Its funny that we bombed Japan all those years ago and now they are more advanced than us...hell they even won our 1st World Baseball Classic. Times sure have changed.

I think is stupid for wireless carriers to offer phones at all! They should stick to just service and let us buy what ever phone we want. I know you can do this now but most carriers will not support it, if it did not come form them. I would like to buy my phone from Nokia or whoever and be able to carry it to a Cingular store and have them flash it or what ever they do to it., to have it work with all there services and it would be mine not theirs so whey cant lock it and I could carry it to Tmobile if I did not like Cingular and they could do the same thing to it. Like I said I know you can buy one from EBay now and do this but you may not be able to down load from Media Net or you voice mail icon my not work.
...
If that happened how would we know what phones are cool or not? the carrier tells people whats great and its tickled down to the reps to push it even futher down customers throats. I like to be straight up with my customers and they respect that so when I let them know that the Razr is not that great I feel confortable directing them to a better phone. (Nokia most of the time.) ๐

๐ฒ Wow, I just found out Verizon is going to carry the LG Chocolate slider phone. This phone was suppose to only be for Korea but I guess the FCC threw Verizon a bone, Cingular will maybe get it after a few months when its no longer important. Come on SE k790a, we need you to come to Cingy.
