Using an aircard on media net
Here's my problem -
I have a Treo 650. I don't like giving Cingy all my dough... so I'm currently using the 19.99 media net unlimited as my data plan, and it works flawlessly (well... as far as wireless data on a treo goes). Well... I tried to hook it up to my computer to use it as a wireless modem, and was frustrated to find out that the treo won't work that way.
Anyway, the moral of the story is a question. If I were to spend the dough to buy a Sierra 860 off of eBay, and I plugged my SIM card into it (with voice plan and 19.99 media net plan), would it work?
I'm trying to get out of spending 60 or 80 bucks on a data plan.

To save $40 per month you would be risking a bill of several thousand dollars at 1 cent per kb. They have the right to charge you and probably would since you have the wrong plan.

He's right - there's different data provisioning required for the PC cards. MediaNet is an "internet lite", not a true portal. If you used the MediaNet plan as an ISP, than you might end up being charged because you're not actually using MediaNet, you're using ISP data (which is what is provisioned when you have the data connect plans). I dealt with a few bills where that happened, and it was not fun telling someone that yes, they did actually owe $7000 for their bill. On the otherhand, the idea of someone doing something they shouldn't & thinking they can get out of it, then getting caught with the bill can be pretty hilarious. . . which reminds me of pretty damn funny story for the Crazy customer thread. . . excuse me. . . 😉

That's horrible...
but thanks for the save. don't know what I'd do with a 7G bill.
Anyone have any other suggestions? I just don't think $60 a month is doable, with my phone bill already being ridiculously high.

How about following policy? Tried that with anything?

Sounds like you can't afford it. Best bet would be not to use it then. Just like you can't afford that Mercedes, you can't afford the laptop connect.

I thought the SIM cards on air cards were different (shape) than the ones on cell phones. I guess I'll pay more att next time I see one. 😕

Nope, same card type just activated as a seperate line.
