BBB pwns Sprint: Cingular's Network claim endorsed

PWNED!

Maybe Verizon really does know all of this and thats why Verizon has yet to jump into the litigation battle and remained mostly on the sidelines. Sprint succeeded in two things.

1. Looking foolish
2. Having another source backup Cingular, thereby helping support Cingulars claim.

I still think Verizon will jump in before this is all said and done. But I'm happy that Sprint was handed an incredible setback towards their advertising efforts. Cingular will without a shadow of a doubt use things as well as the Telephia drive results to laugh Sprint out of the courtroom.

Go big Orange!!!

Very good to hear. I thought it was rather foolish of Sprint to challenge Cingular's claims in the first place.

It was rather humorous to read the articles a month ago saying that Cingular in turn bypassed the BBB and took Sprint to Atlanta court.

I immediately got an image of several Sprint execs with an "oh ****" look on their faces. 🤣

So, when are we going to stop seeing those Sprint commercials? 🤣

everytime I read a sprint rep on the forum post about how "they have the most powerful network in xxxxx" I cringe. If i had to compare it to something I would say the bitter beer face from those old keystone commercials... thats about what its like.

"a victory for their confusing, largely meaningless ad campaign."

Haha. . . so true, but at least Sprint is forced to admit that their questionable claims have less grounding than Cingular's questionable claims.

I really didn't get that last line of the article too well.

If Cingular's advertising campaign wasn't continuously getting the job done...how else would they top the industry every single quarter in gross adds? On average they add about 4 million new customers per quarter, with some quarters topping 5 million.

That to me says that their advertising strategy is doing them wonders.

I see your point, but I'm not sure I agree. Let's be realistic - most advertising in this industry is hype based on a kernal of evidence. Is the fact that Cingular is pulling in all these customers a result of the advertising? Possibly - but I suspect that advertising has less to do with it than might be thought. I don't know if there are any figures available as to what effect advertising has on people actually signing up for service.

My suspicion is that people have grown immune to cellphone advertising. It's so unbiquitous that most people tune it out. They'll remember maybe a catchphrase ("Can you hear me now?" etc.) and offers in BOLD (for example - a commercial may have an ad for a FREE RAZR!!!!, but who remember...

Argh. . . that should read - "have los t the power to wow the American people" And I should clarify that I'd like to see a study on the effects of advertising spefically as it relates to cell phone companies.

I don't know though...

Every time a Cingular commercial is aired on TV I hear it even when I'm not really listening for it. I can be doing something in another room while somebody is watching TV and it comes on. Something about their advertising pulls my attention right to it.

Advertising is definitely doing something for these cell phone companies...otherwise they wouldn't be spending the millions (some billions) on it that they do each year.

I also would like to add that even when I don't hear a commercial on TV, I know it must be Cingular. I'll have a TV turned on while mindlessly doing something else. I'll wonder why the sound suddenly stopped working and before I even turn around to see it for myself, I realize it is one of Cingular's dropped call commercials.

There is just something about their advertising...it catches your attention before you even realize it.

OMG!!! The same happens to me. Even when I see a commercial that I haven't seen before. I'd be like: Is this...? is this...? Oh yeah it's a Cingular commercial. I guess is the man's voice. I don't know.

Who said anything about being entranced? I don't go into a coma and get sucked into the TV or anything. 😳

They're just very distinct commercials.

I do the same thing, but it's because I work for them. Other cell phone companies I somewhat pay attention to as well. Car commercials might as well not be there for all I notice them, I've totally tuned them out. I tune out pretty much everything that doesn't interest me at all, where as something I have slight interest or involvement will stickout like a sore thumb.
