I have been reading a lot of comments of cingular changing upgrade policies. Does anyone know what specifically they are going to change. Which markets are going to be affected? When does this new policy go into effect?

The policy goes into effect on 7/10. It is a national policy.

Handset discounts will no longer be determined by contract length remaining. Discounts will be determined on an individual basis taking into account the following

Payment history
Tenure
Time since last discount
Rate plan
Off network usage
Data usage

A small percentage of customers who are determined to be not profitable, 3%-5% of base, will not receive handset discounts.

I know I wouldn't be.

What happens with all those family share plan additional lines? None of those are actually profitable.

Not really (I hope) These are mostly TDMA customers hanging on to their ancient equipment. They have been sent dozens of offers in the mail to get them on GSM equipment, but ignored every single one of them.
Also, I do believe the last letter/offer sent to them May-June stated something like: "This is your last opportunity or something close to that"
