GSM gains more market share?

Ok guys, in Venezuela the 2 (and only) major cell phone companies were CDMA. This changed back in 1997 when GSM was introduced in the country. These three regional companies were introduced as follows:
-Digitel (Central)
-Infonet (West)
-Digicel (East)
These 3 GSM companies just merged last month (a la ATT & Cingular) to form the first and only nation wide GSM carrier in the country. The merger just started a few weeks ago. (Im very excited as you can imagine)

Now, I just happened to realize that Movistar (main carrier in the country) Is starting to switch from CDMA to GSM! LMAO. It's starting the transition by Xmas. A spokesperson said that they were doing this to be more competitive with Digitel (the newly merged GSM companies) I ...

This a forum about an american wireless company that uses GSM.
This a forum about an american wireless company that now works much better in Latin America due to those countries choosing GSM as their upgrade path. Most are switching from CDMA to GSM. Please note that some of them had already deployed EVDO. 😳

FYI: Did you know that just like the US, Latin America had only CDMA as the main choice for wireless? TDMA was a far second choice. GSM didn't appear until the late 90's (just like here in the US) Now.... this is changing very quickly as mergers take place in those countries, and more and more GSM carriers are formed. This ...
