Very very disapointed with cingular wireless's performance during this hurricane. The power went out for the whole town meaning cell towers were down. I woke up to go in the attic to avoid the water then i thought to get my phones. In my pocket i had a cingular, sprint, and verizon phone. We were tryin to dial 911 as we were stuck in the attic with 8 ft of water. My cingular phone would not work, no service for almost three weeks. You'd think with an allover network it would be durable. It wasn't, so ipowered it off. Next is my sprint phone. I powered it on and it looked for service for about 3 mins then picked up a digital roam signal, with a sigh of relief i dialed 911. The call connected but then i heard a "Welcome to verizon wireless, al...

i think you are lucky that anyones tower kept working through that hurricane. honestly, they you probably got lucky that vereizons tower was up on a hill or something. i hear comments like this about every company in all different places.

You are probably right, maybe that's the reason why i had to dial multiple times due to it being overloaded.

I never had time to post it, i havent owned a computer, just renting others, now that i have one i thought i posted, and that is funny, i dont recall typing "uh cingular sucks because they whipped up a hurricane and made my phone stop working" it was jus some insight. Cant i share a story w/o criticism? And i kno its late, i had second thoughts after posting.

Thanks for the info - it is always good to know which service was more reliable. I have Cingular but still think Verizon is the most reliable in most situations. Cingular has made great improvements in the past year. It won't be long before they surpass Verizon in reliability.

Yes cingular worked but just not in the slidell new orleans area, that's all i was tryin to say, i was jus givin my side of the katrina/rita story, just like you gave your side of your experience after a hurricane. Didn't mean to offend, jus venting out a lil bit.

To avoid any more negativity from some of you, i'm askin if anyone can get this thread deleted cus i don't know how. I'm sure a lot of you hate this thread or think it's dumb, but if the mod could do it i wouldn't mind, as goes for the one in the verizon forum. Thanks in advance. and sorry if it sounds mushy.

Is it me or does this story start off like a lame fairy tale? Or perhaps a cheesy joke. Was one phone to hot, one to cold, and one just perfect? Thanks for the post goldie locks.

Now that you mention it, it does, but hey that's what happened, believe it or not, and there's plenty more things to complain about, i'll be glad to list if ya want, but i doubt you'll read, anyways like i said from the beginning, no complaining intended, but if i was it would be about how slow the governor was to let red cross and other government aid in to help the victims.

Of course most cell towers are not going to survive a hurricane like katrina. Verizon has mobile cell towers and generators that can be deployed in case of an emergency. I think Cingular has something similar now, but didn't at the time of katrina. Rapid disaster response is part of being reliable.

Cingular most definitely did have COWs, COLTs, etc, at the time of Katrina.

Turbo, I think I went through this discussion with you last year. Maybe it was somebody else...but I don't think so.
