Problems with CU500

So we got these in the store last week, and I really want one. Problem is, I'm not in a 3G market (shouldn't actually BE a problem right). The main thing I have going on is when I put my SIM card in (3G) it doesn't show service. Same thing happens with my co-worker's phone. Oddly, another one of my co-workers has a 3G card and she said her's works. I've tried 4 out of the 5 phones we have here. Anyone have any ideas? Do I need to change something in my account to UMTS or something?

Did you change the technology to UMTS/HSDPA? I definitely think you have to. Just like when you upgrade someone from TDMA or TDMA-GAIT to GSM. Let me know what you did.
I'm interested on this because we don't have 3G yet, so I want to know so whenever I upgrade someone to a 3G device I do it correctly. 🙂

Well I didn't change it in my account yet. I'm still in the process of selling my other phone on Ebay, so I was just playing with the LG. I'm sure that changing it in the system would be benificial, but it started to work. We don't have 3G/UMTS yet, so I figure you can get away with not changing it yet and letting it just work GSM, but I dunno.

I'm using one in a non-3G market. I started with the original 64K Smartchip, 63698 and swapped to a newer 3G chip and never had a problem

Not as bad as the RAZR when it came out. I think this phone is well worth it. True, it is a head of it's time in some markets, considering it's 3G and you can only use it for all it's worth in a few places, but it's a great phone from what I can tell.

What? in what market is this? The retail (non-commitment) price of the phone is $299.99! And in Atlanta (my closest 3G market) is $129.99 after $50 MIR. Look!

West Texas. It's odd we have it to be honest. We're not in a 3G market, therefore you can't buy it online. According to the tags we got it's that 249.99 and 199.99 after MIR. Our retail on it (marked up $50 from our cost) is 315. Yeah, our cost is 265, so it has to be chalked up a little.

I live just south of Atlanta and it wasnt on that link you provided. I may just have to get it as a backup phone if it turns out to be a good one at that price.

Wow, i'm a north west indirect and we usually take a 50-75 dollar hit on phones with activation. that would suggest this phone at 180 to 190 pre-rebate. Retail of course would put it up around 315.
I hope this will be a hot phone for us being Seattle has a 3G network as well as Portland! 😉

Alright, I know this problem has been fixed already, but I'll clarify what might have happened here. When a phone that is EDGE, or more commonly 3G compatable, or any data service for that matter. Its added in one of our billing systems, now this updates a system which tells the network "Hey, he has data, connect him" to simply put it. Now, sometimes that can take a little bit, and sometime it wont update at all, which you would then call Cingular Care and they would reset it for you and make sure it updates properly.
