little something to think about:
Second quarter results have been officially released on VZWs website.
Highlights:
Net Adds:
Industry record 1,535,000, compared to Cingular 428,000
Service revenue Growth(yoy):
20.6%, compared to Cingular 5%
APRU:
$50.80, compared to Cingular $50.30
Churn:
Industry leading 1.45%, compared to Cingular 2.7%
Any questions?
...
By the way, the cdma carriers outgained the GSM. Sprint added more subs than ATT and Cingular combined.
...
What!?!?!? That can't be possible...Didn't you hear GSM is taking over CDMA and running it into the ground...at least in Kingfrogs warped mind ...hehehe
...
Sprint also had a lower churn than both att and Cingular. I think they need to get it together.
...
Stop worrying about dominating world wide and try to dominate nationwide...you say you got better phones, better network, better pricing, no roaming, international calls, 7pm n&w, rollover, etc etc etc...Where are the numbers? Thats all I gotta say...Show me the numbers!!!
...
Lemme see...at the beginning of the year there was one fully GSM national provider... T-Mobile. AWE and Cingular were still doing the GSM overlay. That being said, now that both have completed those overlays, we will begin to see which people choose more often, especially after the AWE deal is completed.

okay so shall we just discontinue this debate till 3Q results come out? Does that sound good to everyone?

I'm expecting results to change very little.
...
Me too but if they are going to cry "Foul", because it seems that not everybody is educated on the "vast improvements" of GSM then maybe another quarter of eating dust will help them out hehehe
...
I definitely think that another quarter (or two) would help Cingular's numbers out. Even as of now, not too many average people even know that a merge between the second and third largest wireless companies is occuring. I'm not expecting the change to be huge, but when the general public starts to hear that Cingular is bigger and better than before (after the merge of course) I feel pretty safe in saying that added subs will be considerably higher. The average person doesn't care about all the tech-stuff about a company, they just love to hear the words "largest wireless network" and such. A few more quarters could help their numbers along, no doubt.

personally I like hearing "best" in stuff I buy but maybe Im a minority here
As we've all seen, largest doesnt mean squat *cough* ATTWS from 2000 *cough*

SShhhhh...Cain will hear you and then the ****'s hit the fan.

Well it's no matter what we give them, even if God came down from the Heavens and declared "I have used all cell phone carriers and the best overall is VZW" they would tell Him that He is wrong
...
I have yet to see what I keep asking for, and until I do its just VZW spouting off. SHow me results from an agency that has driven all 6 networks that can decidely say VZW is the best, most reliable network. Someone who DOESN'T work for VZW.
If its such a FACT, why can't anyone show me PROOF?
I'm not asking for the missing link guys, just BACK UP your claims.

In the VZW Forum there is something from ShagVZW that has a survey that was done...I don't know if it was local our regional or even national but it's there...probably won't be sufficient for you though...I'll tell you what I will pose this to anyone watching this thread...I volunteer myself for this quest...give me 6 cell phone 1 from each carrier, gas money, a salary/per mile rate, and a car thats worth a damn, and I will drive every inch of highway in this great nation and when I get back I will tell you who has the best coverage...any takers!?!?!?!
...
While we're waiting for Bill Gates to respond to your offer...lol... I'll see if I can search that post.

We'll just let the numbers keep backing it up. How's that?
...
The numbers just mean you guys call sell it. That people buy into the whole ad campaign. But if it were me, and I'm sure you have noticed this by now, before I made a claim, I would DAMN WELL BE ABLE TO SHOW PROOF!!!
Tons of VZW reps can claim it, but none can PROVE it. Betamax was superior, and had proof of it, but still lost out to VHS. VZW claims to be better, can't prove it, but has good marketing that makes people BELIEVE what NO ONE has proven.
All they can say is based on THEIR OWN TESTING, and what they think they know about other companies, that they are more reliable. Can they show me anyone who has done an actual drive test of all major networks that showed Verizon to be more reliable based on a comparison of all of us? No. ...

I'd actually like to see a good test drive of all 6 top networks myself. I think it'd be fun to read, not to mention it would give the edge to the company who actually has the most reliable network. And it would give the other 5....er, 4 something to strive for.
...
I'm still waiting for a taker on my proposal...
...
This is our testing:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/aboutUs/imagegall ... »I know it's not good enough for you, but I just wanted you to know what it is that you are calling insufficient...
"Verizon Wireless currently has 60 test vehicles that cover over 100,000 miles per month. Specially equipped cars carry antennas, wireless phones and laptop computers to test calls on the Verizon Wireless network, as well as on the competition's."
It's right there on our website. I couldn't find anything like this on cingular's website.
...
Why does it automatically have to be misleading customers Phone Pimp...Ad's are not nearly as powerful as word of mouth, of how good a service is in a certain area...and in those areas where we just rock completely the word of mouth of less dropped calls so on and so forth have brought customers to us...
...
Hi this is Marcus again from cingular customer service. I turn away customers from cingular everyday because we do not have service where they live. I think with the buyout of AT&T wireless it will help wiith that. Also we still were able to add new subscribers while doing a massive network overhaul. Not only were we doing the gsm overlay but so were are roaming partners. This was a huge undertaking and some customers lost patience. But overall cingular had a very good quarter. I am not dissing BIG V but i do not compare us to Big V. I compare cingular from year to year and cingular has made major progress. But overall all the companies need to focus on educatiing our customers. That will imporve all of the wireless carriers churn rates. I th...

Hey Phonepimp, do you really think anyone would test all 6 networks? I wish someone like Consumer Reports would, but I doubt it. đĸ At the same time other companies do test their product and have professed their bragging rights.
Example: Trojan states "Water tested on our machines for YOUR Protection". đ¤Ŗ

Airwar... there are independent companies out there that do just that... Telephia for one. But no one has come forward with those results.
I get quarterly updates for our market (Boston) from Telephia, but do not have access to the national figures.

Thanks, I learned something!

gotcha đ

Do you know sprint's biggest gimmick when messing with subscriber numbers? Rebates are given to NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY. So, when an existing customer wants the rebate, they have to get a new number with the new phone. So, sprint gets a "new customer", while not "cancelling" the existing account. That's one of the MANY reasons there are about to be rules and regulations regarding how companies count their subscriber totals.
The only real number you guys need to pay attention to is #2. It's the number VZW will get to know all to well just in time for 2005.
...
I think it will take longer than that. There are to many Verizon lemmings willinig to 'excuse Verizon" and like actually blame Motorola for the propietary BT implementation of the eagerly awaited BT phone. I know now why Motorola and Nokia do not rush out to make phones for Verizon. Verizon gives THEM a bad name!!
When will they ever learn? I say soon, real soon.
...
But these are quarterly results, not yearly results. The fact that earlier in the year they were still doing upgrades means nothing at this point. Sprints numbers prove my point. They have more adds and lower churn.
...
Okay PP, I understand we will then push back any debate in this matter all the way till the end of the year...is that sufficient or would you like to come back to this 5 years from now to see whats going on

It is because all the Cing reps spend alot of their time in the VZW forums trying to pick a fight.
Correction. Some. Not all. Those like phone pimp and digital pimp and a select few others seem to be pretty cool and just wanna shoot the breeze.
Then there is the frog. Nuff said there.
General and VZW forums are the busiest forums on phonescoop.

You sound more surprised about the results than I am. VZ will do fine for another year or so. When the New and improved Cingular is up and running,We will see if VZ ads remain in growth mode.
Im doubting Daddy's wireless phone company will sustain todays growth tend. Watch and learn.
And Yes, even someone with Down's as you now claim I have (you need to delve deeper into your imagination, boy, you are running out of 'cool' names)as can see that!

Which just goes to show you that in America you can steal the original work on which you base your company product*, steal additional innovations** and get out of it by a hostile takeover of the company you stole it from, and make billions. What a shock, I must say... đ

Microsoft has no competition, never had. Linux is recent and is making inroads.
Bill gates wrote DOS I believe under contract with IBM who wanted an exclusive and had it for awhile.
Apple was not the originator of the GUI. They stole it from XEROX PARC who created it. When Apple went to sue Microsoft years ago Xerox stepped in and threatened to sue Apple if they won for stealing the idea from Xerox. Would have been a slamdunk case. Apple dropped their suit vs MS and life went on.
Verizon can not be compared to Microsoft in business terms. Verizon is a lot more vulnerable than Microsoft. Unlike Windows, CDMA is not the most accepted standard wireless technology worldwide.
There are many premiere suppliers in industry you can com...
