Can someone explain this HSDPA stuff to me?
I understand that it is capable of higher speed then EVDO rev 0 and even rev A. But how does that translate into anything for the consumer? EVDO is capable of over 2mb/s, but I really don't see that being utilized on a wireless network. I don't even get those speeds with my comcast cable. It'd be great to have an aircard capable of 8 mb/s at an affordable price, but what are you going to do with it?

Cancel your cable subscription. Pop it into a laptop and have broadband speeds everywhere you go. Just a though.

So you think they'd drop their DSL and market the aircard? I don't know about Sprint, but Verizon's aircard is only for 'internet & email usage' not as a replacement. I'm sure you know Verizon's "unlimited" is not really unlimited, meaning Cingular will certainly have a data cap when the customer becomes nonprofitable and we know how Cingular loves profitability... With such a high transfer rate you could probably reach whatever that cap is pretty quick.

i dont think they'll have a cap on it. if so this cap will be an extremely high cap. vzw's cap is pretty high too.
im also pretty sure with those aircards cingular wont have any limitations. i can see them marketing different things like cingular video being included or something equal.

I just read the contract for Cingular's data services. Under Prohibited and Permissible Uses you will find several reasons why you should not replace your cable/DSL modem with Cingular's service. After reading the contract I could care less about HSDPA deployment.

i thought comcast has speeds up to 6mb/s, oh well, Well hsdpa has around the same speeds as ev-do according to other people, i only tried ev-do, but i personally have yet to try hsdpa and hsdpa supports voice as far as a phone goes, and evdo doesnt

The HSDPA is extremely fast, and honestly when using the EDGE on the cu500 you still see about 3x the speed of other phones. You can actually open pages quickly using the URL browser, and this would lead me to believe that using it as a modem would be just as good as a wireless card.
I'm more interested in the ZX-20, anyone have any idea when we're going to see this phone on the market?
