Does anyone know when Nokia 6230 will be released in Northern California market? I'd like to know whether to keep the SE 637 that I'm trying out.
The SE 637 is a great phone with impressive reception and quality, but, man, is Nokia 6230 sweet!!! Of course, it all depends on price, too. BTW, another question - any word on the price of 6230?
And, man, am I glad that I left Verizon and did not wait for the release of the V710. I played with it today at Radioshack and I am NOT impressed at all. Boo at Verizon for crippling the technology in every possible aspect. Bye!

what was so unimpressive and tech-crippling about the v710? I'm just curious, cause this is the first bad review I've heard yet.
I expect it to be too heavy on the bells and whistles to be a good phone, but I'd love to hear some proof.
...
Well, if you ask me, here is how I felt:
1. unimpressive:
Camera. Took the same exact picture with LG VX7000 and the Motorola V710. The VGA picture taken by the VX7000 actually looks better than the megapixel shot from V710!? Not impressed.
2. tech-crippling
Bluetooth. The only three profiles that appear to be working with V710 are:
- Headset
- Hands-free
- Dial-up Networking
The following Bluetooth profiles are either disabled, missing or not working on the V710:
- Synchronization
- File Transfer
- Object Push
- LAN access
BTW, even though the hands-free profile appears to be there, neither the signal strength nor the battery level are communicated to the Acura TL head unit and do not show up on the MID display in the c...

Just an observation, but does it occur to anyone that data features on CDMA phones are often disabled? There's one reason to consider going with GSM/WCDMA when my contract with Verizon is up October of 2005.
I have never had this problem, all my data features work perfectly, I think people are having problems with the V710 cuz they could'nt wait for it to be released by VZW, Maybe the ones that Radioshack has still have some bugs in them, who knows?

I was referring more to Verizon using BREW to control its data, and the browsers built into most CDMA phones. What I'm really jonesing for is something like the new HP Windows Mobile co...

It seems like this is also true for Nokia as well. My friend has the Nokia 6820 and he says he does not get the signal strength nor battery level on his Acura TL MID as shown in the TV commercial. It sounds like Sony Ericsson is the only cellular phone maker that is building phones to use the full functionality of Bluetooth.
The Nokia 6820 is a class 6 EDGE phone so that's why I was waiting for the Nokia 6230 but if the Bluetooth isn't going to be as good as Sony Ericsson which I've always used, I might just wait have to wait for at last a quarter more. The Sony Ericsson S710a is supposed to come out in the 4th quarter of 2004 which means it'll probably hit dealers by 2005. :-( I guess we'll have to see how long my patience for usi...

The 6320 should be available everywhere by the 2nd week in August. Here in North Texas, we expect it here by the 5th. As for price, either $149 and no rebate or $149 with a $50 rebate. Still undetermined.
Yes it is a sweet phone. I am going to get rid of my V600 for it. Blame it on the fact that I have always had the best of luck with Nokia's. The V600 has been a great phone. I have had really good luck with it since I purchased it August 1st.

I agree with the Will i am going to get a 6230 once it comes out.. our estimated time of arrival here in the South Texas market is suppose to be the 2nd week in August.. We'll see how that goes, because some of the phones we are expecting were suppose to be here 2 months ago. Oh well..
I have had my V600 since April i would say.. I have had nothing but problems with it. I get dropped calls all the time, phone dies on me, it's cracking on the face for no apparent reason. The battery back comes off at free will. Just lots of reception problems with it too.. The only thing i do like about it, is the fact that i can do a network search and pick up AT&T, T-Mobile or Cingular whichever one has the best reception in the area that i am in, an...

Did anyone read yesterday in the Wall Street Journal that the Nokia 6230 is in very high demand and will be really hard to locate? I asked my friend about this and the said that was only in Europe. I was just wondering if that was true and if there is new new information about the when the phone maybe coming out. I go to A&M and so I guess I would need it out of the Houston market. Thanks for any of the advice.

well it is a cool phone...
it's not my kind of phone but it is cool 😁

I am too at Texas A&M and i work in college station for a Cingular Dealer. We have gotten it on our price sheets and they say it will be available at the end of August for us to start ordering and selling. So we shall see how that goes.

The only price i have seen on a Upgrade right now is 140 and a 50 dollar rebate which isn't bad, and that would be a 2 year. probably roughly what you paid for your 8265. I'm waiting on the 6230 myself, because i hate my v600. Just give it time it will be here. Look for us in the Commons Lobby and the MSC. Also we have three locations in town, 2 in the Post oak Mall and one accross from the Walmart in College Station..

Hey I was just wondering if anyone or James had any new info about the release date of the Nokia 6230, I really need a new phone and what to get off TDMA and onto GSM. Thanks for the info, and FYI it would need to be out of the Houston market b/c I go to A&M. Whoop!

first shipments are due in 08/28.

OK guys so I have another question about when phones are released, how do you know when your market will get the phone, or do they release it to all of the markets at the same time?
Aimee
...
Normally all markets get them around the same time, in my area (I handle Gulf States, Southeast and DCS markets), usually the DCS market gets them first then the others get them a week to two after. Though lately this has been changing so all get them the same time.

I just got word that the 6230 isn't coming out until early September now. So, much for that back to school deal with the 6230. As we all know early September could mean a whole range of things. It could be the first week of September, or the 2nd week of september....However, if it's later than that, those wanting one, i found a bunch with the 850 band last night on ebay! So, you might want to look there, spend the extra cash and not worry about a contract!
