Alright, I'm considering the new treo from cingular, the 750, but how is the network?

I currently have the 700w with verizon and, while I love the coverage and speed of evdo, they have pissed me off royaly and made an error so egregious, it cost me some cash.

So, I'm condering switching.

The 750 intrigues me because it has double the ram as well as the ability to run on the hsdpa network. However, I have no idea where this special network is; cingular's website lacks a lot of detail about the particular network. If it is as paltry as I am assuming, how fast is edge which is what I am assuming I will be under the vast majority of the time anyway.

Is edge everywhere I get normal coverage with the phone? Is hsdpa everywhere I get normal coverage? If not, how long will it take to roll out hsdpa in LA? Weeks? Mon...

1st question is, what part of the country do you live in? (This question pertains to UMTS/HSDPA)

2nd question is, where are you getting the 750 from? The last I heard Palm wasn't releasing anything until 1st quarter of next year, and that was leaked. The two new GSM treo designs were still under project names, and had yet to be labeled.

UMTS is great. The data speeds average between 400-700 kbps and max out at 1.8mbps. Blah blah, you probably know all that. If it's in your market, you'll love it... so say what city you're in so we can help out. Then tell us this info you have about the 750.

Sorry. I live in Los Angeles ;)

Only solid info I have are pic's I've seen. I believe the 750 is the 'deluxe' of the 2 new treos coming out and it looks sexy. There were a few shots that should still be up at www.engadgetmobile.com

I have a line in LA for a relative and she says that it works great for her (she is a student with jacked up credit). She lives in Gardena and spends most of her time in WestLA, Long Beach, and the South Bay. I moved from there a couple of years ago (cheaper to live in Texas) and coverage was good just not in South Central on the eastside (79th & Central Av to be exact, soo woo MSB 79th Street). Damn I miss LA 😢
Somebody get me tissue 🤣

Really. Yeah I used to go to El Camino College and worked in Compton by Central at the 91. We would do most of our shopping and hanging out in Torrance around Del Amo & South Bay Galleria Malls, hang out at Fat Burger (Artesia at Sepulveda or Marina del Rey), or go to Hermosa & Redondo Beach to mess with the girls. That sure brings back memories 😁

Dude, you should not have any problems with coverage in that area. Cingular worked fine for me.

I only saw a few black and white photos from a link off cnet a few weeks ago. I've been waiting and waiting for a umts/hsdpa pda and I was hoping these would be them.

and I'm not gonna be as informative as I'd hoped to be. I don't have any of the older UMTS brochures that have locations flagged, and my even more precise map tool seems to have a big hole over LA. San Diego has quite a bit of UMTS coverage though, so by the time the new Palms come out there may very well be coverage for LA (or at least updated info).

The way the map looks now has a straight edged line where the UMTS drops off as you near LA. Of course, coverage is never that precise, so it's more like an absence of data for that area than a lack of coverage in that...

There is a simple answer to your long essay, lol, which is; do the test trials and see for yourself, becuase we have no idea what is going on with your area and the devices there.
