probably gonna phase it out for something presumably "better". A630 or v620 perhaps? They probably know something that we don't as usual.

When I was at a Cingular store the other day, I heard that Moto V600 is being replaced by V620, which is basically an upgraded version that adds a few extra gizmos to the already feature-rich V600 platform, plus they are also getting a Moto V551, which is also nice.

Just my 2 cents.

The v620 is planned to support only GPRS, not EDGE. The v551 will support EDGE. This could change before a release though.

One thing you guys are forgetting is that the v620 has not even been FCC approved yet. That means it has a 5% chance of even coming out this year. So your reasoning does seem too plausible

I have no idea as far as the dates are concerned. Was just relaying the information I got and it sounded credible at the time.

Yes, it looks like V620 may be years away, for all I care. I, personally, have had my share of Motorola recent probl..., I mean, phones (T720c, V600, V710 - argh), so I'm looking for a change. SonyEricsson T637 is neat, works great and I might just keep it, or I might upgrade to a new Nokia when it comes out. No more Motorola for me (at least, not for a while) 😁

yes, it is being dicontinued due to reception issues with a small percentage of phones. it will be replaced with the V551 - same features, but EDGE capable.

I read that the v600 withdrawal had to do with Bluetooth enabled phones being susceptible to hacking. Apparently hackers devised a way to steal virtually all information on a Bluetooth enabled phone.

I'm not sure but the article indicated several models were at risk. You may still be able to read the story on PCWORLD.COM It's in the news section. Haven't really seen it anywhere else. I was going to purchase either the Cingular V600 or VZW VX7000 but now I'll probably wait and see what develops.

Give me your e-mail address, I'll forward you what I got. I'm no Bush lover by any means but all I was saying in reference to the v600 being discontinued is it's as credible and liberal a move as this Fahrenheit 911 movie.

Its not that it is 100% made up. Anyone can minipulate the truth. See, if there were a propaganda firm made about any politician, it would make them look horrible. You can turn the truth into anything you want it to be. He has the right to make that film, But he has to realize that by doing so, he is forcing his opinion on people that really dont follow any of this stuff.

This isn't a new problem.

It's been affectionately dubbed Bluesnarfing (reminds me of that Thundercat's character Snarf) and basically what they do is use the BT connection to look at and transfer info on your phone to thier BT device. The BT SIG is workin on ways to prevent this, but as of now it's unavoidable. The good news is that you still have to be in the 30 ft. BT range in order to do this, and even if someone does it leaves the info on your phone intact. You never knew it happened.

So unless you store SUPER SECRET gov't info on your phone (Like I do) there's no need to worry about it on a handset.

Nice article, but then again those who need to worry about this sort of thing probably won't use online bill paying or ATM machines.

hackers do that crap becasue they can. Not becasue they really need someone's phonelist or ringers.

Ho Hum....The flexibility and convienience of BTis well worth the "security" risk.

What about the T637? No news there? The timing of the fear factor PC World article is suspicious with the releaase of the clipped V710. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm Since Verizon's long awaited BT phone is crippled and relegated to voice only, I would not be surprised if they now will say; "See lemmings? We here at Verizon are protecting you." We are working for your security and safety. No one will be able to steal your ringtones or screensavers....casue we cannot transfer data!" We are working for you."

Everyone knows BT has a short usable distance. I would guess if one were that nervous about their phone list they would not be using BT in Airports where (if it were true) the hacker would have the best opportuniy to steal someone's girlfriend's phone ...

do these people not realize that if BT secuirty is really THAT BIG of an issue that there's an option on EVERY BT phone called TURN OFF BLUETOOTH. not only will "attackers" not even be able to see your phone but it will also save battery life.

Right! And some phones with _good_ implementation of Bluetooth even have a "selective approval" list and an option to either completely disable access from any equipment that has not been previously paired and explicitly put on the "approved" list by you, or you can make the phone beep and prompt the user "Device such and such is trying to establish a Bluetooth connection. Do you wish to grant access?". Bluetooth peers from your "approved" list will have access without this question, everyone who is not on the list will be either rejected (default), or the user will be asked.

Sheesh! I'm not worried... When getting a Bluetooth phone, simply make sure that the Bluetooth implementation in your phone is good and complete! 😎
