Are we getting screwed for using the 850MHz 1900MHz UMTS/HSDPA bands?
I keep seeing all these nice UMTS/HSDPA phones that use the 2100MHz frequency and that have been released in the UK and Asia, but not here in the US for not having the 850 and 1900 bands. This is making me mad! What is this all about?

Patience is a virtue buy the end of 06 u will not care about those phones. Cingular has a huge lineup coming of 3g phones once UMTS is launched in more markets. There are a few phones that have passed testing that will blow your mind but Cingular needs to wait.

I think right now we just need those bands because the 2100 mhz UMTS isn't deployed nationwide. If you didn't have those bands you'd have nothing to fall back on. If you got one of those with the intention of only using it in a UMTS market, you should be fine.
Just don't travel with it.

I think that 2100mhz is the umts frequency for europe. 850/1900 is for the U.S.

Ya know... I think you're competely right on that one, cus the 2100 mhz is what boned up the public broadcasting system that got nextel in so much trouble.
