Alright I'm curious about this and I'm sure there have been threads but nothing recent...
I recently switched over to Cingular(orange) from Cingular(blue/ATTWS) and since switching the coverage in and around my house has dropped where I never had a problem making a call in my basement and surrounding community for 6 years I now do. It seems like ther transition between one tower and the next is harder to make and causes the call to drop. Is there any reason for this or has anyone else had the same problem?

The first big question is was your old phone TDMA or GSM?
Then there's also the possibility that the towers in your area may not have been converted yet. They didn't really finish up the Dallas area until earlier this year. There should be at least one informed rep in your area who knows how to look up coverage in your area. If not you can post your zip code and let us do the foot work.

If it is by shaumberg then my friend who lives there ditched cingluar cause it didnt really work in shaumberg!
...
I have a friend who lives in Naperville and it works great there. Does not work so well in Hinsdale though.

Last phone was GSM...SE t637 ATTWS branded

Then theoretically your phone should have the same or better reception. Obviously that's not the case. The tower (or towers) you were picking up off of from the Blue side may not have been transitioned to work on Orange yet. The only way to know for certain is for a rep to look at our map tool and check.
When my area went through integration, we had weekly emails of what clusters were being converted and on what night. This let us predict when they would get to each cluster in our area.
IF that is the case in your situation, your Orange equipment will work as well as your old Blue equipment once the integration is completed.

any names of someone on here that could do this?

If I knew the zip code I could look it up from here.

60175 sorry and thanks =]

It looks like every tower between Randall and Route 47 was undergoing integration when they last updated the maps. There are currently 4 Orange antennas on 2 towers and 3 Blue antennas on 3 towers closest to that ZIP code. When that's done you'll have 4 towers and 7 antennas to pull off of, so I'd expect things to get better. If you find it's just extremely difficult to get a signal in the meantime, try powercycling your phone before you make a call. If that doesn't help, you can try to force it onto a certain tower depending on what kind of phone you have. Some let you manually pick the network.
I hope that helps some.

may I ask when that map was updated? and how long integration takes out of curiosity. You've been very helpful I appreciated it this information explains a lot.
...
The time stamp on the maps was 7/31/06, but who knows how often they actually update the date! Integration is an iffy thing. It's something they've been working on since the whole ATT/Cingular merger, but apparently it just takes forever.
When they started working in my market they didn't give us a schedule. We would randomly get emails from our supervisors informing us what cluster of towers was being reset, and on what day and what time. Usually we had a day or two of notice. Some weeks we'd get two or three notices, and others we'd have none. I'm not really up on "how" they're going about changing these towers, I've just gotten word of the end results. Before it was done I had customers on the fringes as yourself, and after they...

I'm sure they will. Thanks for all your help.

What kind of phone did you get? If its an LG or Samsung take it back and get a nokia. Around here even though the coverage is good lg
s and samsungs drop a ton of calls and lose network coverage while nokias don't. I've been to chicago suburbs and my nokia worked great everywhere I went.

I had a SE t637 and the family had nokia something or others now I have a w810i I bought online and they have cingular branded 3 SE z525a and one LG c500
...
huh, well idk. the SE have always been pretty good. I just ordered the w810i how do you like yours?
...
It's a great phone however if you had or used the t637 you'll understand when I say the w810i feels a little cheap which might not be the right word but it just feels less sleek than my t637. I think it's partly cause I loved the key layout of the t637 having a big block of keys rather than individual ones.
...
I can imagine that by looking at it I have a t637 at my house but I never used it.
...
oh man I loved my t637 I'm acutally going to unlock it so I can switch between my w810, z525, and t637 when I feel like it...
I doubt I'll want either of the other two that much though =P
