7 p.m. Nights (new charge)

If customers already had the 7 p.m. feature, should they now be charged the $8.99 instead of $7.00? I've had the feature for over a year, and all of a sudden, i'm getting charged $8.99.

Its not shady though. Features are not bound by contract. If they only offer one price on that specific feature then this will happen. unlike media prices that change every 3 months or so, Nights @7 charges have only ever changed once that I can remember. It's not like it is costing you all that more anyways. They just dropped the federal tax which in almost all cases is way more than the measley $2.99 more that they started charging for nights at 7. you have to remember that people who use over-use night and weekend cost(6000-1000 N&W minutes) cingular money with no way to recover. even though cingular does not charge for N&W calls it still costs them money.

Yeah, as in all of a sudden two months ago your bills started saying you would be charged $8.99 instead of $7.

true. they sent out a flyer saying that prices were changing. and before anyone gets really upset, your contract has one of those "prices are subject to change without notice" clauses. we should all be thankful we got notices. at least, those of us who open our bills.

I'm not upset about the price going up. I'm upset because I pay "auto-draft". I don't open the bill. However, that change was never noted on the website when i go to check my account online. All in all...the point is this. Who would be upset if their callilng plan increased 28%??? The $39.99 plan would go up to $51 dollars. I think its about time I port to someone else. How sad is it that Cingular increases the price for all existing customers instead of adding that to new customer accounts? That leads me to believe that they aren't expecting many "new" customers...so they have to stick it to the existing ones. hmmmmm

Since you don't read your bill you should know that insurance is going up a buck too.

Your math is a bit off too. The 39.99 plan with the old 7pm nights is 46.99. With the price change, it's 48.98. The 1.99 change is a 4.23% increase.

Here is what I meant.

Ole Price: $7.00
New Price: $8.99
% change: 28%

Rate Plan: $39.99
28% increase: $11.20
New Price: $51.19

Does that breakdown help clear things up for you? If Cingular can increase features 28% and expect customer to just take it....I have a problem with that. What if the 3000 text messaging increases 28%? That would bring it to $25.59! I guess it comes down to just how much a customer can take. As long as everyone keeps taking it...and not porting, then Cingular will keep increasing (it seems).

Your price plan isn't increasing 28%. The cost of 7pm nights went up 28%. That still means your total bill only increased by $1.99. I understand that paying more is never "nice". I pay bills too, and my income doesn't increase that often.

However, the cost of text messaging recently decreased. People were paying 19.99 for 2500. Now they get 3000 for the same price, and that also includes photo messaging. Before someone would have to pay 19.99 for the text and around 2.99 for 30 mms. Now they're saving 2.99 and getting more for it. Did you complain about that? MEdia works also decreased in cost, while there was no real increase or decrease in MEdia basics. Does that sound equitable?

When we rolled out GSM price plans, every s...

I think you are looking at this from your employers (Cingular) point of view. I know that by me writing in this forum is not going to change the price...I just wanted to see if anyone else agrees with me on my point.

I'm not here to debate you...because obviously you think Cingular can't be beat. For the more than 21 million people that live on / or near an interstate....they should all have Sprint anyway. Unlimited text messaging for $15, free calling that starts at 7 p.m. with the option to pay for free calling after 6 p.m. And EVDO coverage in a growing number of cities.

Cingular is so far behind in 3G data. Sprint and Verizon both have Cingular beat when it comes to 3G by a long shot.

But enough of comparing..., some ...

You seem to be inplying that he can cancel without ETF. You can't get a waived ETF because Cingular increases the fee for an OPTIONAL feature. If it was a mandatory fee like Verizon did a while back, then yes you can have your ETF waived.
