GSM 850 vs 1900

Snuggles

Sep 3, 2006, 9:25 PM
In getting a unlocked GSM phone off the web, can I get away with a triband (1900) phone for CIngular or is it a must to get a quad band (850) phone?

I've noticed not that many quad band phones.

depending where you live you might be able to get away with just the 1900 band. i was able to with an unlocked rokr to a certain degree. the 1900 band is primarily used near highways or open space due to its longer travel but weaker strenghth. the 850 band is used in metro/heavy traffic/crowded areas. downtown in most cities or shopping malls use this band as an example. and it showed with my unlocked 900/1800/1900 rokr. 😡
