I am considering leaving tmobile and moving to cingular. How well would you rate this service, especially in the midwest area? Thanks 🙂

So you think its a waste to switch because they use the same type of network? I don't follow your comment.

He is a Verizon fan-boy. CDMA or bust, you know them, flea market brand phones, pricey plans, JD Powers (oops T Mobile owns that one now),

The recent unvieling of the wow V710 Motorola phone with....yes finally Blue Tooth...Oh BTW Verizon clipped the BT so it can nly be used for Voice only...no data...they want your money to use their puny extended services network (GIN) so ya can download ringers etc.....45 million lemmings

Yeah THAT Verizon....

If you do choosse Cingular, the T637 is a GREAT little phone, Voice operated everything.

Everywhere like, where the buffalo roam? the top of the Rockies? in the Arizona desert? Yet many cannot get a reliable signal in Atlantic City....or Lincoln Nebraska. Hmmm

Everywhere is a big word.....yet thats exactly what Verizon sales will tell ya. You can get signal EVERYWHERE!

The only important signal is EVRYWHERE one wants a signal as in where one lives and plays. The rest is expensive subsidizing of other users on the farms and in the woods

LIMITED? Have you seen a coverage map lately? Our coverage is damn near identical to yours, fanboy. And ALL DIGITAL. And remember that little buyout? That will give is the largest network in the US. Give up, the fat lady is warming up...

Yeah THAT Verizon....

So we're all lemmings now, are we? I just wanted a reliable wireless service, and after asking Verizon customers if they liked their service, I'm an asshole because I heeded their advice along with 45 million other subscribers? I still find it odd you're constantly in here rationalizing your choice of cell phone carrier.

Rationalization...now that must be a new word in your vocaulary, right next to Duuude. You sure do use it a lot.

OK then if you will. I made the rational choice...I guess so then Im rational and rationalizing a rational decision. Oh and "you say you are an asshole because you heeded their advice along with 3 along 45 million" other lemmings whom you spoke with as well? Your words, not mine.

What? you say you didn't actually speak with the 45 million personally? So I suppose you just went along with the herd then......Yep a true red lemming!

Hey if its good enough for 45 million..well so should it be for you. Now run back to your big red sandbox boy,,before the lemmings make another choice without you.

That is why we consistently provide quality service, and actually TOP your network in many major markets. You DO watch 20/20, don't you?

Now to answer the man's question with some FACTS instead of mindless prattle:

T-Mobile uses GSM 1900 exclusively, where Cingular uses 859 and 1900. 850 has better in-building performance.

T-Mobiles coverage area is considerably smaller than Cingular's

Cingular is in the final phases of a buyout of ATTWS, which will increase network size, coverage and capacity.

Any other questions, just ask.

Oh, OK...so they'll gain that in the merger? I'm in the S.F./East Bay area of CA, and as I've said before am considering Cingular. I've seen past issues with dropped calls and dead-zones in this area with Cingular, but friend's who are on it now have experienced great improvement over the last year, so I want to see if that will help here after the merger is complete by adding the 850 frequency.

really tmobile and cingular run off the same network so switching doesnt do anything except i did notice my samsung p107 broke up more than my ericsson t616 and samsungs have the best reputation well the vzw guy told me #3 and sayno got number one..HA..they only deal with sprint...biggest mistake my friend ever made, every four weeks her phone is shut off for two weeks. my other friend..his plan was litterally taken off his account and he was charged an off minute rate...and guess what..SPRINT MADE HIM PAY ALL OF IT! I think it was around $1000. I did go to sprint and i had to call two months later to get my refund check.

Cingular uses their own network... they have roam agreements in some small areas like upstate NY with T-Mobile. T-Mobile uses 1900 MHz GSM, while Cingular uses 850/1900. So saying they use the same network is in error.

since it seems you're not gettin much in the way of real advice (funny how a simple question can start a big pissing contest) the best thing I can tell ya is to check out the coverage maps in your area. From what I've noticed Cingular's regional coverage areas are usually a bit smaller than their GSM Nation areas are locally. If there's a big hole in the map around your closest city then there's a good chance it won't be a good switch. Then go into the retail stores and ask them to check out their map tools for ya and see if the coverage is spotty in your immediate vicinity. Finally, look at prices. In some cases Cingular has lower prices, but it doesn't matter who undersells who if you can't afford either.

if you're not happy with w...

to answer your question without all the fighting...Verizon and Cingular are both pretty well covered in the midwest...VZW beats out Cingular for total coverage in Ohio while Cingular coverage is major in Kentucky...so on and so forth...the biggest thing you would want to do is take a look at the coverage...if it fits where you wanna go then take the one that fits you best...as for phone both companies have great phnoe but angain it comes down to what YOU are looking for...I am in the Midwest myself...what area are you looking for service in maybe I can get a little more specific for...

It is pretty amusing that the VZW guy jumped in when VZW isn't even being considered. Even then with a senseless comment. If your 40million customers speak for themselves.. then let them.

Anyway, I found this website useful in learning about peoples' experiences with different carriers in various areas. It is well organised and a good starting point for research.

Same old song and dance 40 million blah blah..Well GSM has 1 Billion users world wide, Yet you don't read Cingular, T mobile or ATT reps spewing that theme over and over again like the Verizon fan-boys in defense of their choice.

I like to think of the 40 million lemmings a result of great marketing and a big lapse in credible reseach, The visible and real definition of herd mentality is 40 million Verizon customers being squeezed for every penny to belong to the "club." And with 40 million how many can actulally use their M2M Network for 'free' calls? Amazing people can't see the big picture.

You two act like children.
The poor guy just asked for information on Tmobile and Cingular. It really doesn't matter how big the network is and how many customers you have if I can't the signal to make a call; and if Customer Service doesn't take the time to listen to an issue and actually try to resolve it without spouting irrelevant and incorrect nonsense.
Instead of arguing about your customer base, maybe start focusing on the things that really matter to your customers. Remember, ultimately size doesn't matter.
