Buying unlocked - how do i get a SIM card?
So I ordered my first unlocked/unbranded phone just now, and since im switching from VZW to Cingular, whats the best way to get a SIM card?
A friend of mine recommended signing up for a cheap freebie phone at cingular, then just switching the SIM card out. This way Im not paying for the SIM card, plus I have a free phone (most likely to give away).
Any thoughts on this? Pluses? Minuses? Any other ideas/thoughts?
Please help! 🙂

well most places may want you to sign up for at least 1 year contract when using your own phone, but some may let you sign up with any committment this way you can get a sim card for free. and if you get a freebie you will sign a 2 yr most likely. hope this helps

Yeah, don't sign up for a freebie or else you'll be under contract. That defeats the whole point of buying unlocked.
Sign up on a 1year if you want the promotional elements. If you want to do a no commitment then just pay for the mobile to mobile instead of getting it free. If they say that's not an option then walk out of the store. They're too dumb to be doing business with.

Ah ok, i see what you're saying about avoiding a contract (although my main reason for buying it unlocked was because 1) it was about the same price, with added free stuff to boot, and 2) to avoid cingular's software on there).
What if i wasnt particularly interested in the free mobile-to-mobile? Most of my friends/family use verizon...but i just hate their phones. So the mob2mob cant help me that much on cing.
I know this sounds dumb, but do i just sign up for the pay as you go option? or is there another option to get about 450 min/text/data?
(god for someone who loves phones so much i dont know crap about services....)
thanks in advance!

Just sign up on the regular 450 minute plan with 5K night & weekend minutes sans M2M. It's one that we offer, and make sure they stick you on a zero month commitment. You might have to buy the SIM card this way, but $25 is small potatoes to not being under a contract. Then just add on whichever text package you choose.
So if you got the message starter package you'd be looking at $39.99 plus $4.99 for the text.
