Why the high price for the V3i?

What's the deal with the high price of the V3i from Cingular? The phone is a year old and you can pick it up unlocked for under $230 but Cingular wants $250 for a locked phone with a 2 year contract? I thought the cell companies subsidized these phones and that's why they're locked.

i guess its all about demand. if nobody was buying the v3 the price would have fallen faster, and probably dropped by most carriers faster until it met at some point in which consumers thought it was a good buy and worth the money. hopefully nobody buys it so the price will go down!
