V600 in San Francisco. Problems or no?

I'm confused. Been reading the forums and see that there's a "reception" problem with the V600s on Cingular. But I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, bought a Cingular V600 on Sunday (Circuit City has a SICK rebate whereby if you buy a V400 for $80, you get a FREE V600 and a FREE Bluetooth) and, so far, have experienced no reception problems at all. Phone works great (well, as great as cell phones work, which isn't saying much.)

So, my question is: Are the V600 problems nationwide or are there only geographic pockets where the phone has problems?

Thanks!

The V600's problems are with the 850 MHz GSM band. Those in 1900 MHz areas will not experience any reception issues. If you do travel in the 850 areas, which is a great deal of Cingular's network, you will have issues. In either case, I would take advantage of the repair offer.

Thanks. How do I find out where the 1900 MHz and 850 MHz areas are? Are there coverage maps online somewhere?

yea, just go to the cingular website, and they should show coverage.

Or google, google is always good 😎

Cingular uses 1900mhz primarily on the west coast so you're ok unless you travel east. BTW, only the Cingular branded v600 is having this 850mhz issue. AT&T's and the unbranded ones aren't affected.

chilly b,
Well then, I'm really confused, since CC in the SF Bay Area only offers T-Mobile and Verizon, not Cingular. I asked the store manager at CC in Dublin, and he never heard of an $80 deal (plus free) deal on Motorola. I couldn't find anything on Circuit City's website either.

Can you explain more on how you got an $80 Motorola deal from CC in SF?

He meant Best Buy. They are the ones with the free BT headset and the free V600 after rebates.
