So why does Cingular or any of them in fact disable features?

That is just stupid. Like disabling the wifi on units.

Cingular has not disabled wifi on any device sold. the nokia e62 does not have wifi like the e61 because the lack of wifi helps keeps the cost down. and most customers aren't looking for a wifi device. it's all supply and demand. we have 2 phones with the obex profile missing, but not at the request of cingular, the phone manufacture left it off to keep prices down.

Exactly. The only feature's that are able to be disabled, are cameras on Blackberrys, and thats done by the IT guys at your own company, not by Cingular.

I had a customer switch to Cingular from Verizon specifically because VZW disabled certain BT features and Cingular didnt. Take that Big Red!

That is a dumb question. Lets see. Do you think cingular wants you to have unlimited internet through wifi and not pay a dime? Or do you think they or anyother company want you to use their internet service and pay $xx.xx a month.

When has Cingular disabled the features on any phone? As stated in another answer, the E62 was modified from the E61 primarily to keep the cost down. Other than that, there's never been a phone that was manufactured with a feature that was disabled by Cingular. The SX66 had wifi, it wasn't disabled. The 6515 iPaq had standalone GPS, and until just this month, there was no navigation feature even offered through Cingular, so you would be able to use the GPS without being charged at all. And Bluetooth? Has there been a phone that's Bluetooth capabilities have been crippled like VZW did/does?
