Old AT&T TDMA customers, service?
A friend of mine got a notice with his bill (He has TDMA) and he is now being charged the $5 / month. My question is- What kind of service benefits would he get if he waited until the very end of TDMA to switch? Would Cingular give him a huge discount on service?

No, they'll just shut his service off when the TDMA network sunsets in Feb 08.

If it does happen, I think it'll be early summer next year, that way Cing will have plenty of time to shut down sections early.
Towers are going down now, they are going to end up maintaining just enough to remain above the "required" threshold for the FCC.

No. More than likely he was included in the TDMA sunset offers (mailers) that were sent out in order to get those TDMA customers on GSM. This offer expires 10/31/06. If he doesn't act on this offer it'll very unlikely that he will get another one. I don't think Cingular will spend any more money sending more letters to them.

He would have to pay $5 a month between now and February 08. That is about $90 plus tax to keep it. Any potential benefits would be far less than $90.
