Cingular and XM Satellite Radio Deal?!?
ok.. i'm watching the news... and they just announced Cingular is teaming up with XM Satellite Radio to offer digital radio on our phones? I can't wait to see the details on this!

Because of the ties between XM and the Clear Channel. I despise the latter to death! They are the reason why the music industry stinks! As a guy who enjoys good music, I found refugee on satellite radio. Since switching to Sirius I listen to what I like. XM has a good Indie Rock channel too. But I felt like getting XM would had been like defeating the purpose of me getting satellite in the first place.

ya im a sirius subscriber. it is far better then XM for talk radio which is what I like best.
as for XM being the leader, they wont be for long. Sirius is outselling them badly every quarter since howard stern arrived in january.

Well, Xm will extricate itself from any CC operational relationships in 2008 when they (CC)will recoup thier original investment and sell thier interest in the co. I despise MS however I don;t hate apple for taking 150Mil from them a few years back 🙂

He has some funny math..He still has an audeince less than 1/10th of his former audience... also Sirius inflates thier subscriber numbers by including every car manufactured with a Sirius radio regardless of its a valid sub. Assuming the issue lies in what I remember from my days at Best Buy, it the technology.
The Sirius receivers require a bit more bulk due to the technology they use, whereas XM's technology is able to be a little more compact. Hence, XM's walkman-like device (whose name escapes me at them moment) that was launched some time ago.
It's probably just a matter of not being able to fit a receiving into the phone using Sirius' technology.

Sirius uses a different technology than XM does. Different receivers and different type of signal (kind of like GSM & CDMA). As I last knew, the technology Sirius uses requires a little more bulk in their receivers.

Well I confirmed there is going to be 25 channels and the launch date is on Monday.
The fee will be 8.99 a month (similar to MobiRadio).

The XM is already up and running. I have an LG CU500 and hit the music button on the phone and chose Music Applications from the menu. XM was a choice. It sounds pretty damn good ... especially if I had earbuds when I was working out. There are about 25 stations. I actually have the damn thing out in the kitchen, I am in the home office and I can hear it just fine.
