hi all,
i spoke to a customer service rep. today for about an hour, and she told me that if i purchased the 8525, i would have to pay an additional $40 per month on top of standard service charges. (messaging, talking, etc.) My area is not set up with HSDPA yet, but can i still use the phone on GSM? is what shes saying true?
thank you.
...
yes that is true. you will be using edge/or gprs till u get hspda in your area
...
but do i still have to pay an EXTRA 40 a month?
...
Yes. PDA Connect is $39.99 a month.
...
what if i dont want it?
...
You only need the 39.99 connect if you want internet, if you don't plan on using the internet, you don't need that package, thats what its for, unlimited internet. You also might wanna check on the rebate, b/c on some PDA's, in order to qualify for the mail in rebate, you have to add that package, hope that helps 🙂
...
I can confirm that. No PDA Connect, no $50 rebate
...
do they have an unlimited data package for 20? thats what i thought..
...
Not for PDA phones or Blackberries
...
The 20$ package is for WAP browsing on normal phones. Since the PDA's use an actualy web browser, they transfer a lot more data, thus the 39.99 package.
...
i see
thank you all so much for your help! 🙂

I currently have a treo 700p that uses blazer browser. I thought that was a WAP browser no? Because if it is, and cingular is requiring people using the treo 680 to use the PDA connect with a WAP browser just because it has a QWERTY keyboard doesn't justify the sacrifice of the lack of functionality of the WAP blazer on a $40 data connect plan. Clarification please?
...
AFAIK, the blazer broweser is not a wap browser. The 700 is a CDMA device though.
...
that for unlimited smartphone connect not unlimited pda connect.
smartphoone connect is for devices like: the cingular 2125, or 3125.
pda connect is for devices like: treo 650, or 8125.
...
I used my Treo 650 without issue on the 20$ plan..it w only for 3 months, but it was a lot of data I went through..for an non 3G connection.. 😁
