Coverage question

Hi guys!

I'm interviewing for a job tommorrow in which I understand that a lot of my business will be in southern VA. That's fine for me since I grew up in So. VA and already know where everything is, but I was planning on switching to Cingular since thier coverage is better here at home. I also understand that I may have to travel a lot over the state line and I don't really wanna keep my ALLTEL phone just so I can still be reached when I have to go to VA.

My question is this: I know that there is AT&T coverage in the parts of VA that I'll probably be in, should this be sufficient to keep my Cingular phone useable when I go there, or should I keep my ALLTEL phone (which works great in VA) until the merger goes thru?

this job also looks like I'll benefit from a PDA....but I'd prefer to keep my phone and PDA separate. Any good suggestions? One with Bluetooth would be nice.

What I was thinkin was this:

My ALLTEL service is sh*te here at home, whereas Cingular is well covered in all the places that I go. My cell is the only phone I use. I was hoping to switch to Cingular and was wondering if there was enough coverage thru AT&T roaming agreements to get me thru any appointments I have in Southside VA. I won't be going off on trips that take overnight stays, just across the border for an appointment, or to see a client, and then back into my home area. I don't wanna have to carry around two phones, one for VA and one for everywhere else. I know that Cingular will obtain some VA license after the merger, but until that time it'll be nice to know if I'll be able to get rid of the crappy ALLTEL phone and go s...

Most of VA is covered, there are 3 markets there we will pick up post-buyout, Virginia Beach, Norfolk and one other.

Where will you be?

The job's with Western-Southern Financial Group selling life/health insurance. I'll mostly be on Southside, areas like Martinsville, Danville, Ridgeway, and northern NC like Eden and Reidsville (home). Of course these areas are places no one's ever heard of except NASCAR fans who have heard of Martinsville, where I grew up. I'd rather be in the Raleigh/Durham area, but I'll take what I can get.

I'm hopin to not have to go the route of sellin insurance for a living. As a habit I don't trust insurance salesmen, but unless one of the wireless carriers or agents I've applied with grab me soon it's about all I've got.

thanks a lot for the answer, I figured you'd be able to help out.

I have noticed that there are quite a few people that are from NC in this site. It is rather refreshing.

yeah...it's cause NC ROCKS!!! 😎 NC's probably one of the technologically "out there" states on the map, we may be kinda small in places, but we make up for it in the use of your techknowledge.

PP I remember you sayin on a post at one time that you went to Duke, so I figured you'd know mostly where I'm talkin about. My mother grew up near Cherokee, but for the life of me I can't remember the town's name.
