Take it to a local unlocking center.

I live in a small town so i dont know where to take it where they would be able to unlock it. Isnt there any way to do it myself? I have the data cables and everything. I have found some sites that try to charge to connect to their server but i think thats ridiculous. So if you know of any site where there is instructions to do it that would be great.

I don't know of one that doesn't charge. People aren't out there to be charitable most of the time. Only nokia dct4 handsets are easy and free to unlock!

I agree. Pay for it to be unlocked or ask T-mo to give you the unlock code. You wont need the data cables, as it's simply a number you input based on the IMEI.

You can unlock it yourself if you have a USB cable to connect to computer. I unlocked my new RAZR V3 after studying CAREFULLY the info on the various modding forums (especially modmymoto.com) Be sure to research it carefully as you can "brick" your phone. Also be sure to check how to and then BACKUP your original setup so you can restore it if needed.
(Hard part was getting up the gumption to do it on a two day old RAZR 😁 )

I also downloaded and checked out the commercial software from the leading commercial unlock site. You can run the software to the point of testing the setup and then when it says it's ok, you can pay for and download a key (cost $25)

A link to the commercial unlock site in on the right hand panel of the site:

Call T-Mobile and get the subsidy code from them. If you canceled service already you're out of luck. Of course I hope you know that if you cancelled service you can't port your number either.

Actually, T-Mo will supply an unlock code up to 90 days after cancellation. Beyond that, then you're SOL.
