I never met a dumb Cingular employee until today.
So I was in my local Cingular store and this guy was just either dumb, or thinking it is November 2005. I was talking to him about at&t. I asked when did Cingular first start selling at&t Yahoo! His response: SBC and AT&T merged to form at&t. (I was thinking, " um duh, I know this!")
So then I said that selling at&t Yahoo! is the first step they are taking to rebrand Cingular. Then rep said " No we are not being rebranded as at&t but instead we will be selling at&t through Cingular." I then pointed out the pending at&t/BellSouth merger, and that if it clears its final hurdle then BellSouth will be rebranded first, and then Cingular will be rebranded thereafter. We as reps are not privy to all of the information and we have been told that we will keep the cingular name for quite some time . This coming from raplh delavagea himself . You are correct the services will be bundled dish,yahoo,cellular but the cingular name change when and if it happens it will be sometime

I heard from a friend that still works for cingular that they are trying not to confuse people by the name change. And that they are going to change the name and somehow or somewhere in the new logo Jack will be seen. Then, eventually, Jack will fall off the at&t logo. It makes perfect sense, but can anyone picture this new logo? I can't âšī¸

The att yahoo thing doesn't have anything to do with cingular, that's all on the parent company (they use it as their internet portal for dsl customers).

The AT&T CEO has already said he was going to rebrand Cingular so I'd say that is 100%. At this point all that lies between AT&T owning Cingular outright and making these decisions is the FCC and that will completed as soon as AT&T stops being so stingy with its concessions. You probably haven't noticed that while Jack is prominently displayed in the stores, the "Cingular" part is already being de-emphasized. I'd say you were the one being "dumb" and not the poster you accused since you have obviously missed the whole Whiteacre view of this thing in the news (moreover, soon Stan Sigman and Ralph Delavega will be answering to Whiteacre).

I will go ahead and dismiss your ramblings. I saw what Whitacre said, I also saw what Sigman said. I also go to meetings for owners of stores in which information is discussed that you never attend. Go buy yourself a store, attend some principal meetings and then come talk to me.
The orginal poster accused some kid of being dumb because "phonescoop" said something was happening. That in itself is dumb. The kid sounded somewhat educated but was called dumb because he doesn't buy into the massive rumor mill that is phonescoop.

Cingular can counter state all they want. They don't want to be rebranded because then Sigman and all of his cronies will lose thier positions as they will no longer be needed since AT&T Inc (The current AT&T company formed after SBC bought old AT&T Corp and renamed it AT&T inc) will be taking their name away and offering the wireless portion alongside thier other services.

No one who posts on this board knows exactly what is going to happen, period. The ONLY thing I know for certain is we will not become ATT right away, which was the point I think the "dumb" kid was making.
I know this for certain because I have not been told yet to order outside signs for my stores. They take about 3 to 4 weeks to make.

Of course we will not become AT&T right away. BellSouth and AT&T have not closed the merger. When they do close, Ed said that BellSouth will be the first brand to be phased out, then Cingular. It could be a whole nother year before Cingular gets changed, but eventually Cingular will no longer be the name of the wireless carrier. I am not assuming that tomorrow we will wake up to AT&T stores instead of Cingular stores. Please! Do I look like a crack head like gunny?

We recently got word from our agent principle that the rebranding will take place in the first or second quarter of '07. Like all things Cingular, however, I will believe it when I see it. That said, all I have to do is look around my store, and at cingular.com, and see all the blue, to have a hint that something is afoot. I've been told some other cool things that are coming regarding ATT and '07, and if they do in fact happen, it will be very cool.

I believe that Cingular will be gone for good and soon because Ed Whitacre the CEO of AT&T Inc which owns Cingular (Ownership will be 100% after the AT&T Inc, and BellSouth Merger have cleared final hurdles) Anyways, Ed said that AT&T will be the one brand that will stand in the end. The BellSouth and Cingular brands will be discontinued after the the current ATT/BS merger is closed and done. Stan Sigman CANNOT Stop this, and neither can the current CEO of the soon to be defunct BellSouth company. I try so hard to explain this but many people seem to find ways to argue with me. Oh well. That's why this is a forum and not the presidential debates!
